Model: TL-R600VPN
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: TL-R600VPN(UN)_v4_4.0.4 Build 20200313

I just upgraded to a 1000mbps fiber connection and the maximum data rate I'm getting through the TL-R600VPN router is between 500mbps and 550mbps up and down.  I can connect up to my ISPs equpment and I get around 950mbps up and down so the bottle neck seems to be within the TL-R600VPN router.  I'm using the same cables when connecting directly to my ISPs equipment to rule out a cable issue, is there a limitation within the router or are there settings that I'm missing that must be enabled/disabled?  I'm running the latest firmware.

If this is a limitation to the router, is there another router that can handle this bandwith such as the TL-R605 or the not yet released TL-ER7206?

Thanks,

Pinto

@PintoJ ...... same here - I live in uk and use virgin media fibre optic 1GB internet modem call the  HUB4.

I put the Hub4 into modem mode and connected to it via cat7 cable the R600VPN

I already have 3 x EAP's 225 for wireless so the R600VPN was the ideal router.

Hub4 modem mode > computer 970Mbps download - 46Mbps upload

Hub4 modem mode >R600 VPN > computer  260Mbps download - 46Mbps upload

Everything is default NO vpn No flow control etc.

All my cables are Cat7

Something must be slowing the internet Wan down?

Btw - Hub4 modem /router mode normal > computer 970Mbps download - 46Mbps upload

@PintoJ

It could be that TP-link didn't implemented any offloading and all traffic is just forwarded using only CPU power. For example in Ubiquiti EdgeRouter without offloading it can go 300 and when offloading enabled goes 950.

Hi @trojanC

Looks like you are seeing the same thing I am.  I ran across a website that ranks routers based on performance of various specifics (see link below).  It looks like the NAT throughput of WAN to LAN on the R600VPN is only around 250mps.  I can't find a detailed specification of the WAN to LAN performance of this router anywhere to confirm or deny but since it appears to be the bottleneck, this could be the issue.  I have found that the TP-Link TL-ER6020 has a stated NAT throughput of 940mps so for us who have high bandwith connections, we may need to pony up for a higher performance router.

(I don't know if we're allowed to post links but if you do a google search for 'nat throughput of wan to lan' a couple results will pop up for smallnetbuilder.)

Hi @trojanC

Sorry for the multiple replies of the same copy.  Kept getting a server exception error when posting so thought nothing was going through.

@PintoJ

Only bought the R600 3 months ago - When I spoke to tp-link sales and explained what I needed , I said my fibre optic Internet was 1 Gb connection, and also told them about cctv cameras and details such as how many port forwardings I needed.

They said, the R600 would handle everything.
