Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: Build 20220106 Rel.56391

I am trying to use the ER605 solely as a failover so that when my Comcast cable goes down, my Starlink ISP will kick in for as long as needed.

I have both the comcast and Starlink set in bridge mode, and have them plugged into WAN and WAN/LAN1 (both of which are configured as WAN).  I have one of the LAN ports connected to my wireless mesh router.

No matter how I plug them in, the ISP on WAN will show as online under the online detection tab, and the ISP plugged into the WAN/LAN1 port will show as offline.  Whichever ISP is plugged into the WAN port, that one shows as online and the other shows as offline.  For what it's worth, the ISP on the WAN port is being delivered to my wireless router and my WIFI works on that ISP, but since the WAN/LAN1 shows as offline, I'm not getting any fail-over protection.

I've tried changing the WAN/LAN1 to manual detection with 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, and have tried changing the IP address of the ER605 to 192.168.2.1 -- as has been recommended here -- but neither helped.

Under the status tab, both ISP's show as 'link up" with their own dynamic IP addresses.

Can anyone see what I'm missing?  Thanks.

The backup WAN will only be active after primary WAN disconnect.

For example you can have a simple test: unplug the primary WAN port Ethernet cable, then check if the backup WAN/LAN1 will turn to online.

@Somnus Thanks for clarifying that.  I ended up doing an online chat with TP-Link support and they confirmed the same thing -- i.e., that only the active WAN shows as online; the inactive WAN shows as offline even though it has a good internet connection.  That was a bit counter-intuitive to me, and inconsistent with the youtube guide I was following.  So thanks for setting me straight.  The other part of the issue was that I didn't realize it took 30-60 seconds to make the fail-over switch, so I assumed it wasn't working when it didn't switch over right away....

You can try Omada Controller. It can customize the Online detection interval
