Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.8 Build 20220909 Rel.75205

Hi,

Am I doing something silly here....

Have TL-SG3428XMP am putting a 2.5G SFP in one of the four 10G SFP+ ports (two of them are running 1G SFP already)

The host sees this and negotiates a 2.5G connection and the interface is marked as up, however switch side the port remains marked as down and no traffic is flowing.

From what I have been reading I thought this was entirely possible with SFP+ yet the switch is only giving me options to set the link to 1G or 10G

Have I missed a step? or misunderstood the capabilities?

TIA!

Scoth

So... I got an official response from TP-Link as to if this is supported, the answer is no, no it is not, which is disappointing as they could, they just don't.

@Sc0th most switches with 10Gb ports will only support either 1GB or 10GB, same goes on Unifi devices with the exception of the WAN port on the UDM Pro.  I am not promoting Unifi here at all, their service/RMA/supply chain is the worst I have ever seen.  I am transitioning between Unifi and TP-Link... TP-Link does have a 2.5Gbps switch as well (8-port) that has 10Gb SFP+ ports as well (TL-SG3210XHP-M2).  It does sound like a jet engine though, so depending on where your equipment is located...

What is the noise level like on the TL-SG3428XMP?

@Feejai Hi! Yes I would agree, further research led me to the same conclusion. I decided to bump most clients to 10G decided 2.5 was an unnecessary stop gap for the internal core network.

TBH the noise level is fine for me, however I have it in a small rack that contains a bunch of other kit so it sort of all just blends in together - it's not especially loud at all, I also have a WatchGuard XTM5 in the same rack - powering that up was notably loud for comparison, so much so I had to rip out the fans and throw some Noctua at it, not something I have felt the need to do with the tp-link switch. HTH!
