Model: ER8411
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.1

Hey All,

I just got my ER8411 installed. I have a 2gb ATT fiber connection. I used the TP Link SFP+-RJ45 modules to link the 5GBE port on my BGW320 gateway to the ER8411. I have another SFP+-RJ45 in the SFP+ to a 2.5gbe Switch. I have IP passthrough properly configured so my 8411 gets a public IP. When I use speedtest sites or downlaod large files, I am only seeing 1025MBPS down but 2200 mbps up. Has anyone else had issues with slower download speeds? I confirmed that I am actually getting 2200down and 2200 up when directly connected to my gateway. Possible software hiccup?

  @8411guy I finally managed to fix my slow download.

for now I tested with my Mac Mini with gigabit Ethernet but as soon as I get my new Mini with 10G I'll post the result for that too.

  • I updated the firmware of the ER8411 to the latest one that just release few days ago (1.0.2)
  • I changed my SFP+ modules as @8411guy suggested to the TP-Link (TP-Link TL-SM5310-T | 10GBase-T RJ45 SFP+ Module | 10G Copper SFP+ Transceiver)
  • I then turned on Flow Control on my Mac Mini, on the TP-Link switch (TL-SG2008P ) that my Mac Mini connects to (both on the uplink port as well as the port that my mini connects to)
  • then I turned on Flow Control on my main switch (TL-SG3428X) both on the uplink to ER8411 and the port that connects to (TL-SG2008P)
  • restarted both switches and Mac Mini.

now using my gigabit NIC, I get 940Mbps down and 50 up. compared to when I originally setup the ER8411 which I was getting 400Mbps down and 30-40Mbps up.

once I get the 10Gbps NIC, then hopefully I see the full speed download on my ISP which goes to 2Gbs :).

I created a separate profile on my Omada for Flow Control Override to apply to the ports I want so it is easy to identify when looking at ports of the swithc.

here's the fix! It worked for me. Finally! Make sure your OC200 is dhcp or that you change the lan subnet to whatever your OC200 is set to if static to access the controller again.   @KPejman

  @8411guy

Your test PC is connected to the ER8411 WAN/LAN 10G port? Or to the switch?

Could that be the switch slow down the speed?

Also if you have time, you can run Iperf to test hardware performance of this router:

How to use Iperf to test the speed on TP-Link routers

  @Somnus I tried it both ways. Same speed with my PC directly connected to the 8411's SFP+ lan port. Still getting perfect speeds od >2200 up and down connected directly to the modem.

IPerf shows max speed of 1250mbps, when I take my 8411 out of the mix i am getting 2487mbps between my desktop and server PC.

  @8411guy

hi,

I have the same issue. I replaced my TP-Link 7206 with TP-Link ER8411. I was connecting my ISP model via a SPF to RJ45 module(10Gtek SFP to RJ45 Copper Module - 1000BASE) to my ER7206. I was getting 950down and 50 up.

now I replaced the router to ER8411 and connection is via SPF+(SFP+ to RJ45 Copper Module - 10GBase-T Transceiver) to RJ45to the model. same ISP and same modem modem and same internet package. now I get max 750down and 50up.

there is something in the ER8411 that caused low download performance compared to the ER7206.

  @KPejman I have tried a few SFP+ modules. My last attempt is a Mikrotik one coming today. I also havew a 10g media converter and I will go WAN rj45 into that and DAC out to my 8411 to see what happens. I was doing tests with support on iperf. I logged into my modem and went from autonegotiate to 5gbps and that worked for a day or two and now I am getting 4700down 900 up with the 8411, or 4700 up and down directly to the model. I have my PC hooked up by OM3 cable to my 3008 fiber switch and the 10g DAC to the 8411.

  @Somnus I upgraded the 2.5g switch to the 10gb 3008f and thats linked to SFP+LAN with DAC. And I got a 10gb SFP+ nic to run fiber directly to my PC with tplink SFP+ modules. I see 10g links on both ends.

  @8411guy thanks for the info,

I tired to do that but the modem doesn't let me to choose the speed.:(

what is interesting is the modem reports the port as 2.5G and the ER8411 shows it as 10G. so not sure what do I need to do.

  @8411guy yes, if you have the 10G fiber switch and 10G NIC and ER8411 Lan via fiber, you get the full 10G.

the issue is when connecting the 10G WAN port via the SPF+ module to Ethernet and connect the other end of the ethernet cable to the ISP modem.

  @KPejman I believe its common for hardware to report a 10g link as SFP+ can only see 1 or 10GB link. But I can confirm that my modem is outputting 5gbps to my media converter. I am using this converter to put the 5gbps Ethernet into a 10gb SFP+ connector to void the SFP+RJ45 module as the issue. Well, I can't post a link but my converter is on fs dot com and its the 100,1000,2.5,5gbps10gbps ethernet to SFP+ media converter

  @8411guy thanks, I just ordered the media converter you recommended too and see if that will fix the issue. did you find any SFP+ that plays nice with the ER8411 and we can eliminate the media converter ?

  @KPejman the media converter didn't do anything. Trying that mikrotik Sfp+ rj45 tonight
