Firmware Version: 1.0.12

Hi,

I'm currently facing an issue with my EAP670 (EU) access points in conjunction with the Omada Software Controller, as I'm having difficulty identifying free channels on the 5GHz band.

I came across a post (https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/605882) that addresses a similar concern, but the suggested resolution, while applicable to Europe, doesn't seem to align with the situation in Australia. Higher channels on the 5GHz band, such as 132, 137, 140, and 144 (DFS/TPC), as well as 149, 153, 157, 161, 165, 169, and 173 (non-DFS), are fully usable in Australia. However, these channels are not visible or selectable within the Omada controller.

I suspect that the access point may be defaulting to European settings, even though it is sold and used in Australia. I say this because channels 120, 124, and 128, which are prohibited in Australia, can be selected for use in the controller.

I would appreciate any guidance or solutions to address this regional discrepancy in channel availability.

The channels of EAP chosen and supported depends on the local laws and regulations, make sure you didn't enable the Channel limit.

Thanks @Virgo! Channel Limit is not enabled. Still I am unable to select any channels beyond 128/5640MHz (DFS). This was not a problem with previous AP I used from another brand.

  @a-sam

I don't think the EAP670 supports the Band 4, take a look:

  @Virgo

I looked into that but I don't think this is the problem. You see, the EAP670 (US) version supports exaclty the same bands as the EAP670 (EU) version (see EAP670 US website specs screenshot) and the (US) firmware enables channels 149, 153, 157, 161 and 165 which are U-NII-3/Band 3 (see datasheet screenshot). So TP-Link should release a firmware (AU) to enable the correct channel spectrum used in Australia which also means disabling channels 120, 124 and 128 which are prohibited in Australia and yet selectable in the (EU) firmware version being sold in Australia.

tp-link is selling the (EU) version of their EAP products in Australia and reusing the (EU) firmware which disables 149, 153, 157, 161 and 165 as they are not used in Europe and enables channels 120, 124 and 128 which are prohibited in Australia. I am assuming the same problem applies to EAP's sold in New Zealand.

Ideally we would have the EAP670 (AU) firmware with 2G:1~13; 5G:36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 132, 136, 140, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165

Good news! I contacted tp-link support and they are working on a beta firmware for the EAP670 sold in Australia that will resolve this problem.

  @a-sam

Did they say if they were going to do this for all models? I have US devices in australia which limits it even more.

Mix of 225/245/615 even if i can get one onto AU regioned it would help 5ghz.

Its annoying that US FCC basically mandated it to be hardware locked not soft locked and configurable.

Recently I have started having a similar issue, is there any update on this possible AUS firmware?

Same boat. EAP670 (EU) with restricted Aus channels... Should they be not sold here? Should we have not bought them?? Would think its an easy fix or is it hardware restricted... I know on my Netgear this is dependent on region selection within bios.
