Hello Everyone,
First time poster here. Please be gentle.
I work at a flyinn fishing resort in northern Canada and among my other jobs I do all the IT work here at the resort. Nothing fancy, we just have a fiber line coming in and I use a basic router to deliver Internet around the resort. I was using a few EnGenious EOC2611P Outdoor AP's with an EnGenius EAG-2408 Outdoor High Gain 8DBI omni direction antenna and just one of them almost covered the entire resort for WiFi (500m-750m from one end to the other with the main antenna being in roughly the center) It worked good for about 3 years but last night we had a pretty intense thunder/lightning storm. And unfortunately I think a power surge from it's PoE injector or the AP itself.
So I had been using a few WA710N as a wireless bridge to a part of the resort that was across the bay about 700m and they did a fine job in bridge mode. So Since I had a few spares of them I set one up with a spare EnGenius EAG-2408 Outdoor High Gain 8DBI omni direction antenna. Problem is I barely get a signal 15-20 feet away. I had this issue on a previous WA7510N setup that I had bought. Problem I though with the previous setup was a used antenna that the store sold me with the AP and SMA cable. So I returned the antenna and just used the AP directionally to were I needed the signal and currently it is working fine. But now that I have setup a second WA7510N with a brand new antenna I have run into the same problem with poor signal strength unless you a within 5-10ft of the AP.
I have played with a ton of settings
QSS: Disabled
Operation Mode :Standard AP
Wireless Settings:
region: canada
Transmit Power: 17dbm (should I lower it to 10 since it's only an 8 dbm antenna?)
Channel: Auto (I have tried 149.5745, 153.5765, 1575785, 161.5805)
Mode: 11NA HT40 (I have also tried HT20 with all the channels above)
Distance setting: 2k
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did just in case the AP just doesn't like non TPlink antennas ordered a TP-Link TL-ANT2415D 2.4GHZ 15DBI Omni-Directional Outdoor Antenna. But it won't be here for atleast a week (joys of living in the north)
