Model: CPE510
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 2.2.2 Build 20201111 Rel. 58267 (5553)

OK so I may have not understood the product but let me go through the situation and hopefully someone can explain/help.

I have an office in a metal garage that acts like a Faraday cage, till now I have had a USB dongle out the window of the garage to pick up the wifi signal from the house. I have a RE700X wifi extender in the house as close to the garage as possible and the signal is very strong outside the garage.

Thought a more outdoor designed solution would be a good idea for the coming winter months so decided on the CPE510. Followed the video instructions to set the CPE510 in client mode and hit survey, I can see every ones wifi in the village apart from my own.

I then read that the 510 is 5G so I disabled 2.4 from the RE700X extender so there is only a 5G signal which is still strong at the garage door where the CPE510 is currently sitting.

Ive seen comments about the narrow angle but I can connect to my friends wifi next door which is in the opposite direction to the CPE510.

Is it a channel issue?

Hi  @MarkSilcock

Thanks for posting here.

Yes, CPE510 in client mode is suitable for your scenario.

The possible reasons for not being able to scan the RE signal are as follows:

1. The two devices are not within each other's wireless coverage range. Please place them closer to each other. Additionally, the signal of the CPE510 is mainly concentrated at the front, so make sure the front of the CPE faces the RE.

2. Choose a channel that both devices support. You can first set the CPE510 to AP mode to check the channels it supports, then verify the channels supported by the RE. Finally, manually configure the RE to use a channel that both devices support. This usually ensures successful configuration.

Hi thanks for the response.

With a little help from ChatGPT I managed to get it connected. The Virgin Media router had a smart channel feature and was using 80MHz which the CPE cant see. Only downside is the wifi speed in the house is now quite a lot slower disabling this feature and selecting 20/40MHz.

I may end up running a cable

Hi  @MarkSilcock

Thanks for the sharing.

When CPE working under Client mode, it won't broadcast any wifi signal. So the wifi you were connecting is not from the CPE, but the main router or the range extender.

And when working under client mode, we do need a cable, and recommend plug it into a switch.

Sorry I meant I might run a cable from the house router to the garage instead of extending the Wi-Fi. The PC is connected to the CPE via the POE box.
