Omada V6 Missing Features
With the launch of Omada V6, we have seen many improvements since the initial release. It is a good platform but it is still lacking some very basic features which are found in other similar products. Those missing features include:
1. LED Scheduling
In some environments, such as a home or small business, flashing LEDS are a distraction and also call attention to network devices. In a home environment it is often desired to turn everything off at night. In a business environment, the same holds true after hours so intruders don’t readily spot network devices and disable them.
2. Resetting Statistical Data and Traffic Counters
For some users, statistical data is very important and is closely monitored. However, after review and analysis, the data is no longer useful and there should be an easy way to reset or delete the data in order to start afresh.
3. ACL Hit Counters
Some Omada switches provide hit counters in standalone mode but in controller mode there are no hit counters in the controller UI. This feature is extremely useful when configuring or testing ACLs.
4. Gateway ACLs that Support IP-Groups
Because gateway ACLs do not support IP Groups or IP-Port Groups, users are required to use switch ACLs for traffic control. Switch ACLs are harder to set up and manage for some users. Implementing IP and IP-Port Groups at the gateway level should not be too difficult for the development team. Synology routers, for example, have an excellent firewall setup where IPs and Ports can be easily configured and also have hit counters.
Hopefully over time, some or all of the above features will be implemented and the Omada SDN will even be better than it already is.
