CPE210 "Repeater" or Bridge?
CPE210 "Repeater" or Bridge?

Model : CPE210

Hardware Version : V2

Firmware Version : 20160705-rel52453

ISP : Telekom Austria

Hello,

I like to extend my home network.

Situation now:

Modem -> old Netgear WNR3500 Router (acts as AP and DHCP Server) -> Computer1/Notebooks/Smartphones

Now,I need WLAN in a second house (about 50m away).
It this possible with only one CPE210 at the 2nd House connected to archer c7?

I bought one, buy I can't configure it with the CPE210 connected to a PC... Message: No Internet! I have some Problem with the DHCP.

Tried with: Brige, Repeater and Client.
With Static IP ( Router. 192.168.0.1, CPE210: 192.168.0.254)
With Dynamic IP
Dymapic IP and DHCP Fallback (192.168.0.1 AND/OR 192.168.0.254)

subnet always: 255.255.255.0

CPE210 shows good connection (3 of 4 lights) but nothing happend.... no connection/no IP on end-device

At the End, it shoult look like this:

Modem -> old Netgear WNR3500 Router(AP and DHCP Server) -----------------------------------------> CPE210 -> Archer c7 -> some Wlan Devices

Archer C7 works fine as wlan repeater on Netgear Router Network... should be no problem to change to CPE210 Network
I hope you can help me configure the CPE210 :-(

No. The CPE needs another CPE for a reliable long-distance radio link. The Archer C7 is not capable of sending a strong, directional signal over long distances to a CPE, it is an inhouse AP with omnidirectional antennas, while the CPE uses directional antennas. So the Archer could see the CPE's signal very well (if the CPE is aligned carefully), but not necessarily the other way around.

oh, I need to clarify: the distance between Router and CPE is about 30 meters and clear sight, i can connect my smartphone with the router... so I would use the CPE only as outdoor-antenna and connect with the archer c7 in the house (archer c7 works as indoor AP)...

At the moment i think I'm close to success:

CPE is in Client Mode (gateway my router):

If I enable DHCP on CPE, I get an local IP, but no internet connection
If I disable DHCP on CPE, I need configure a IP like 192.168.0.10 on my computer to connect to CPE, but still NO Internet connection.

Maybe there is only a small mistake on CPE-Network configuration?

Router IP (and DHCP): 192.168.0.1

Archer c7 configuration (IP: 192.168.0.253) :

Enabled DHCP with Range 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199 and default Gateway: 192.168.0.253

CPE210 configuration ( new IP: 192.168.0.198):

Disabled DHCP, tried with Gateway 192.168.0.253 and Gateway: 192.168.0.1

PC IP (given by archer DHCP): 192.168.0.136

stille same message: No Internet

Wrong gateway in DHCP settings. Your gateway is 192.168.0.1. DHCP on CPE must be off. DHCP on Archer in router mode must be on. Archer's LAN and PCs are in a different subnet then. The CPE and its LAN interface is part of the subnet the main router is in, as also is the Archer's WAN. Only if the Archer is used as an AP (no WAN port used), all devices are in the same subnet, but still gateway always must be the main router.

It doesn't work for me. my devices get no IP when the configuration an archer looks like this:
IP: 192.168.0.253
DHCP Range: 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199
Gateway IP: 192.168.0.1

the DCHP of my Main-Router (192.168.0.1) has the Range 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254. maybe this could be a problem, because they two DHCP works in the same range?

Archer C7
LAN 192.168.100.100
DHCP 192.168.100.101-192.168.100.130

Set up the wireless connection well.
CPE mode client
IP Dynamic or Static 192.168.100.105 Gateway 192.168.100.100

then I do it like this, local IP configuration works fine on any devices, but I have still no internet connections because "DNS is not answering".
In the Archer DHCP Configuration is DNS = 0.0.0.0 I tried 8.8.8.8 too, but no changes

even if I put the CPE directly on my computer with this 3 configurations:
first:
IP: 192.168.0.254
DHCP off
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

second:
IP: 192.168.0.254
DHCP ON
Range: 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

third:
IP: dynamic
DHCP Fallback IP: 192.168.0.1

I can't get it work, so the problem must be on my CPE configuration.
by the third, my pc shows me internet for about 5 sec.

WNR3500 DHCP Range: 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254

so CPE IP is in the range since the beginning

 omg. now it works. I thank you so much!!!!!

My configuration:

WNR3500 IP 192.168.0.1
DHCP ON, Range: 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.50

CPE IP: 192.168.0.50
DHCP OFF, Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Archer C7 IP: 192.168.0.49
DHCP OFF

everything works fine now, all devices on both AP's(WNR and Archer) become an IP and Internet.

for my future: can you short explain me, why the range from 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254 is too long?

That's bad, CPE should have a static IP. Leave some room for static IPs, e.g. set DHCP range from 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.240.
Furthermore, 192.168.0.1 is already taken by Router 1, must be fixed IP.

Set up devices step-by-step, check every device for connectivity after each step. That's what the diagnostics tools on CPE/Archer are for (ping, traceroute).

In your setup you have two networks in addition to Internet/Modem/Router1's WAN:

LAN1: Router 1, PC1 & 2, CPE wireless (CPE's WAN and LAN), Archer's WAN: Subnet 192.168.0.0, Router 1 is gateway and provides DNS & DHCP for all clients on LAN1.
Give CPE and Archer a fixed IP in the 192.168.0.0 subnet.

LAN2: Archer's LAN side, PC 3, 4, 5: Subnet 192.168.100.0 (or whatever, but not 192.168.0.0!), Archer is gateway and provides DHCP for PC 3, 4 and 5 on LAN2.

BTW: I don't understand why people give stationary, fixed computers such as Routers, APs, PCs a dynamic IP address. DHCP is o.k. for mobile devices and guests, but not for stationary devices. It makes life unnecessarily harder to use dynamic IPs for them, increases traffic and adds a delay in the time to set the interface after a reboot.

why and how should/can I split it?

WNR3500 IP: 192.168.0.1
DHCP ON, Range: 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.50

CPE: IP: 192.168.0.50
Gateway 192.168.0.1

Archer IP:192.168.100.100
DHCP ON, Range: 192.168.100.101 - 192.168.100.150
Gateway : 192.168.100.100 (??)

since the changes on archer, I have no internet connection... I think I need new IP and Gateway on CPE?

Get it work! Connecting the CPE to Archers WAN port (instead LAN Port) and configure Archer WAN Port like this:

Static IP: 198.168.0.49
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

It works fine!

Only 1 Problem left:

If I restart the CPE, I get "no DNS!"
If I restart the Router (192.168.0.1) again, I get the DNS on CPE back and can surf.

Is there an easy solution?

i won't restart de main router after starting the CPE each time

PS: I don't know how to delete attached images, but they are false!
