Hello,

 

i use this switch behind a connectbox from unityemdia. I configured the switch to use DHCP. So configured it works great. But sometime the switch didn't get a dhcp adress from the connectbox (maybe if connect box is sleeping or unitymedia has a problem) then the switch is automatically configured to 192.168.0.1 (but this is the adress of the connextbox). The only change to get it working again is to turn off the switch and put it on again. Can you please tell me how can i configure the switch to always using dhcp?

raymccoy , all stationary devices should always have a static IP (much like your stationary Connectbox uses the static IP 192.168.0.1).

 

Just assign the switch the static IP 192.168.0.2 or 192.168.0.254 or whatever you like except 192.168.0.1. Save settings after applying.

 

It does not make much sense to use DHCP for a switch if the main router (Connectbox) uses the IP 192.168.0.1 already, which is the same IP as the switch's fallback IP used whenever DHCP fails.

I absolutely agree there is no sense in dhcp for switch, but there is one thing, which you can do. If all your network works via DHCP, you can change LAN IP (to 192.168.0.254 or any other from the range 192.168.0.2-254) of your ConnectBox, so 192.168.0.1 will be free just in case.
