TL-7206, SG2428P and IGMP v3 Magenta TV
TL-7206, SG2428P and IGMP v3 Magenta TV
Hi all,
I'm setting up my Omada network and got an issue.
I'm customer from Telekom Germany and using a Media Receiver 401 and 201 for the Magenta TV. When I start the TV it's way faster than before, but after ca. 30 seconds, the screen freezes and I get the error message, that the bandwith is not enough. When I change the channel, same game. Parallel Speedtests results are ca. 100MByte down/40MByte up...
I fear, that's a IGMP v3 problem (the reason, that I now have the Omada system and not Unifi, because, there it's a known problem...)
My setup: Telekom Speedport Smart 3 in modem mode for DSL -> TL-7206 Router -> SG2428P Switch -> Media Receiver Telekom. In parallel the OG200 controller.
I configured the IGMP proxy enabled in the Router with version 3. I created a vlan interface "tv", enabled IGMP snooping and mapped it to the Switch port where the Media Receiver is connected.
Do I have a mistake inside my setup?
Thanks in advance,
Lars

Hi,
I did some further researches, but still no progress.
I found an TL-SG105e v5 switch and connected it with one of the LAN Ports of my ER7206 Router. After that I connected the Telekom Media Receivers to the little 5 port switch. But the result was the same. After a few seconds, the screen freezes.
Eventually I could set up the little switch between the Speedport "Modem" and the ER7206 Router, but then I would lost the possibility to reach the Media Receivers from my mobile phone, that's connected over the AP/24port Switch, right?
Best regards,
Lars

Hi,
here are some screenshots of my Omada configuration.
The connection to the Media Receiver is now back on Port 5 of the SG2428P switch.
Router settings:
VLAN for the media receiver:
The profile (nothing tagged/unteagged... is that correct?):
The mapping to the Port of the Switch:
And I just saw, that there is a Switch option to enable VLANs... I didn't change anything there, tv is disabled?
IGMP snooping is disabled for the other VLAN interfaces, except LAN. Can't do changes there...
I would be so happy, if you have an idea, what I can try as next steps. The internet connection, LAN, Wifi, telephone, everything runs perfect but without TV I get no approval from my wife :-)
Best regards,
Lars

@shberge thanks for the reply. I tried it, with IGMP proxy enabled, but it didn't work. On the screenshot you see my last attemp with disable the proxy.

I'm pretty sure you did everything right, but you probably need to have IGMP Proxy on the router.
I do not have any IPTV self so I can not help you with the testing either, to me it sounds like there is a bug in the firewall.
It has not been completely without problems with ER7206 and ER605, I have probably never in my 25 years in IT had so many problems with a router before.
but tp-link is working hard to fix the issues so I think it will be fine in the end.
You should contact tp-link support if you have not done so. they may be able to help you. you can meet them this e-mail adress support.smb@tp-link.com
it's nice if you post the solution here if you find any solution.

@shberge yes, I'll try the support now. My hope was a fast answer out of the community with: "Hey, set this to that and it will run", but it seems to be not so easy :-) I'll come back, when I have a solution. Have a nice weekend!

Hi,
today I got answer from support: It's a known issue between ER7206 and the Deutsche Telekom Media Receivers. They are working on a fix and will deliver it in the near future.
I asked, what "near future" means and if there is no work around, but they didn't answer the first question and answered that there is no work around, but a german R&D team is working on it... Was not the solution I expected.
I'm wondering, if I should enable the Router functions of the Telekom Speedport again and put the ER7206 as second Router (double NAT) behind it. Then I could connect the "TV" ports directly with the Telekom Router and the rest of the network with the ER7206. Is a dirty solution and I'm not sure if it works... And I have no connection from my mobile phone to the Media Receivers.
Best regards;

The support asked for a TeamViewer debugging session and sent a debug patch to me. It seems, that there will be some progress on that topic. Will come back after the session this week.

@Orandus Hi,
Is there something new here, because I also have the same problems, but I use the ER605 as a router. IGMP proxy is activated with V3 and IGMP snooping in the IPTV VLAN as well, but after about 10 seconds I get a jerky picture and then a freeze frame with an error message. According to the system check, everything should be OK. I also use the 401 and 201.
