Hello everyone,

 

I would like to ask if my idea is feasible before i purchase ER706W vpn gateway.

 

I have 2 POS machine at at the store. they are wired (LAN) with ISP router. 

 

my plan is be able to RDP on these 2 POS from internet . their LAN is fixed and i should not touch it .

these POS has wireless access. ER706W comes in.

 

POS- WIFI - ER706W - INTERNET - VPN- PC/LAPTOP

 

do you think this is doable?

Hi,

 

It is doable but there are few things you need to make sure are in place before you start:

1. Make sure you have Public IP address from your ISP.

2. If the Public IP address from ISP is dynamic (can change), make sure you have some DynDNS service configured as well (TP-Link router can handle updating DynDNS)

3. Since you will have to routers (one TP-Link, one from your ISP) make sure that:

     A) You can get rid od ISP's router and use your TP-Link only, OR

     B) You can switch ISP's router into Brigde Mode, OR

     C) You can set up port forwarding on ISP's router

 

Point 1 and 2 are required for you to be able to reach out from the Internet to TP-Link VPN server. Without Public IP address (static or dynamic) that won't work.

Point 3 (one of sub points A-C) are required to bypass double NAT and allow the traffic to VPN service with specific ports.

 

EDIT: One comment. Such topic should be in ROUTERS subforum, not CONTROLLERS :)
