My own use case for this would be:

- To put the monitor connected on HDMI/VGA into power saving mode, without needing physical access or other supporting hardware such as a 'smart plug'.

- The screens can then be turned on/off according to a schedule or however needed.

- For me personally, it would be to save electricity while nobody is around, without having to nag someone to switch them off all the time.
