Problem Description:

If you have set up the wireless router and successfully connected to the wireless network, but you cannot access the Internet, please try the solutions below:

Step 1:

Please check whether the Wi-Fi connection of your computer is under Using DHCP to obtain IP address and there is no manually configured DNS server.

If the IP is 169.254.xxx.xxx, please click Renew DHCP Lease to get IP address again. If you still do not get a proper IP, please make sure you have the DHCP function of your router enabled. You can login http://tplinkwifi.net through Ethernet cable to check and enable if necessary.

Step 2:

Log in the web management page of the router. Open the web browser and input the default access in the address bar. The default access is on the label of the device. Here we take http://tplinkwifi.net as an example:

Type the username and password in the login page, the default username and password are both admin.

Step 3:

After logged in, check the WAN part on the Status page, if it displays an IP address, then the router is successfully configured and connected to the Internet:

If there is no IP address, please check the physical connection or call Service Provider to check the line.

Step 4:

If there is IP address on the WAN part of the Status page, please open the Terminal on your MAC to check whether you can ping a public IP address (like If you can not then, please release/renew the WAN IP address.

If you can, please check whether you can open any website. If not, the issue be may caused by DNS server. Please go to DHCP->DHCP Settings page and type in for primary DNS, for secondary. click Save.

Reboot the router:

Step 5:

After rebooted, please try the Internet again. If you still do not have a connection, please call or mail TP-Link for help.

Iam using "TP-LINK TL-WR840N 300Mbps Wireless N Router"  this router.  I have configured range extender mode but internet working. Please advise how configure this mode.

There could be several reasons why you might be unable to access the internet after successfully connecting to a TP-Link router's wireless network on a Mac OS. Here are some common issues and troubleshooting steps to help you identify and resolve the problem:

  1. Incorrect Wi-Fi Password: Double-check that you entered the correct Wi-Fi password when connecting to the TP-Link router. A wrong password will prevent you from accessing the internet.

  2. IP Address Conflict: Ensure that there are no IP address conflicts on your network. If two devices have the same IP address, it can lead to connectivity issues. You can try restarting your Mac and the TP-Link router to resolve this.

  3. Router Connectivity: Verify that your TP-Link router is connected to the internet. Ensure that the router's WAN port is connected to a modem or a working internet source.

  4. Router Firmware: Ensure that your TP-Link router's firmware is up-to-date. Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues and impact network performance.

  5. Network Settings: Check your Mac's network settings. Go to "System Preferences" > "Network" and make sure that Wi-Fi is selected and properly configured. You can also try renewing the DHCP lease to get a new IP address.

  6. Firewall and Security Software: Sometimes, firewall settings or security software on your Mac can block internet access. Temporarily disable any third-party security software and check if that resolves the issue.

  7. Router Channel Interference: Wi-Fi channels can become crowded, causing interference and slower speeds. Access your router's settings and change the Wi-Fi channel to see if that improves connectivity.

  8. Reset Network Settings: If the issue persists, you can try resetting your Mac's network settings to default. Go to "System Preferences" > "Network" > "Advanced" > "TCP/IP" > "Renew DHCP Lease."

  9. Restart Router and Modem: Power cycle both your TP-Link router and modem by unplugging them for about 10 seconds and then plugging them back in. Wait for them to fully restart before trying to connect again.

After the whole settings are perfectly done you can ping any of your websites or any article e.g click here If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there might be a more specific problem with your TP-Link router or network configuration. In such cases, you can contact TP-Link support or seek assistance from a network expert to diagnose and address the problem.
