Edit Device Names Within Omada Controller
Are there any plans to allow users to update device names within the Omada controller? I have the controller installed on a Windows 10 machine.
Some devices show up as their MAC address. In my case the devices are on both my IoT vlan and private vlan.
They are named on my router and some with addresses reserved.

I observed the exact same behavior when I was using the built-in WiFi of my Bell Canada FIBE router, I didn't have much "UNKNOWN" devices in the WiFi management page, but with the OMADA I have plenty... like 50% of my devices (which are home automation devices) are not showing up.
Again, that's the DHCP name of a client shown in the list if it does not send a WiFi hostname. Your router gets the DHCP name since it runs the DHCP server, while Omada Controller does not get the DHCP name since it not has a DHCP server. Any AP controller will use the WiFi hostname and if your device reports an empty WiFi hostname, it's »unknown«. A router is a router – even if it's a WiFi router , an AP controller is an AP controller. Don't compare apples with pears.
And obviously my Bell Canada FIBE router had the option to rename devices, just like any router/wifi system existing on earth, except for the OMADA as well...
Omada SDN Controller V4.1.5 has been released already and it does have the option to rename your WiFi clients.
I have no idea why you all are still complaining here rather than just upgrading to the latest version of the controller.

Is there a way to increase score on this request?
I have a ton of wifi-enabled switches, plugs, bulbs, ... none allow specifying a custom hostname. These and come preconfigured with cryptic names like ESPxxxx.
Despite DHCP settings and entries in DNS, omada controller only reports the name hard-coded in the device.
It would be so cool if omada controller could do a reverse DNS check based on the IP - or a static mapping with the MAC address.

I have exactly the same issue, many other services allow you to add "Friendly" names to devices. It would be great to add this functionalty so those rogue devices wouldn't panic me everytime I see them and realise it's an old smart socket or light bulb. Even the TP-Link smart devices themselves don't have great names.

@R1D2 Thanks for the update, is that a new piece of hardware or software. I'm hoping not hardware because I only recently switched to using the OC200.

@Skutter, no, it's a new version of Omada controller which will run on OC200 or a server. As TP-Link wrote in the Business Wi-Fi forum the SDN controller will manage EAPs, JetStream switches and the new Omada Security Gateway (OSG), thus it's becoming a SDN controller.
