Unstable Internet Connection with VPN Client
Hello,
I am still facing issue with unstable internet connection when I am using L2TP/PPTP connection and it is really annoying one. This issues still persists from SDN V4 and ER605 FW1.0.x. Now I am using latest Linux Controller v5.0.30 and ER605 FW 1.2.0. I am using 2 PPTP and 1 L2TP/IPsec client-to-site connection and 1 L2TP/IPsec server. I am unable to download files through web browser which takes longer times (30 minutes and more). Internet connection is not maxed out (I have 100Mbit connection and download is using 5MBit). These connection drops does not occur if I disable client-to-site VPN. Does ER605 V2 or ER7206 suffer with this issue?

Yes you will probably have the same problem with the ER7206, but they are cheap so it does not cost much to try. they are a little faster anyway.

I did some more testing and it seems like IPSec is ok now but there are still issues with L2TP,

Answer from the TP-Link:
Very sorry, after confirming with R&D, this beta fixes the IPsec site-to-site VPN issue. L2TP over IPsec is not fixed. R&D is in the process of making another version of beta, please be patient.

I do a test with the new software copy 8-10Gb with no issue, but it painfully slow :-)
I have also replaced my ER7206 with ER605 v2 and now I have about 250Mbps in a IPsec VPN with exact same config in same site as ER7206, so don't by ER7206 that in my site do 30-50 Mbps with IPsec VPN. I also do L2TP test between two ER605v2 and the speed was about 40-65 Mbps.
witch type of L2TP server do you have in the remote end?

Ok, I use unifi USG 3p for L2TP with policy route on the tp-link router. I also have a UDM Pro that I play with from time to time but have not tested L2TP on this one. if I have time I have to pick it up one day. but now there are so many tp-link problems here that I have not had time for anything else. the new thing now is that the ER605v2 restarts or hangs up completely when there is a lot of traffic in the IPsec VPN tunnel. it's so bad that i had to connect a Cisco firewall here today to run IPsec so I can get backup, this has failed ever since I got ER605v2.
So there is always something with the tp-link routers.
Otherwise it looks very good, good speed in VPN when it works, so I really hope that tp-link gets its routers in order.

New firmware 1.2.1 for ER605 breaks down PPTP VPN. With this version is PPTP client-to-site VPN very unstable.
I have found something that should be related to my problem on UBNT forum (search - Site to site V.P.N. timeout at exactly 3600 seconds). Seems like UBNT has even worse VPN. I think that problem could be, that ER605 does not handle keep alive at all or differently from Windows VPN Client and UBNT Dream Machine Pro after 1 hour renew IKEv2 key.
