I had a bad experience a while back with a Unifi poe switch when I plugged in a netgear hotspot into its ethernet port that had POE, the hotspot fried, had to buy a new expencive hotspot.   So Im gunshy about plugging anything other than POE devices into these new switches.   Is there a way to just turn off the POE power on a port via Omada?   I see the disable choice per port, but it appears to disable the whole port so it doesn't pass packets either.  -Bill

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

There is a PoE management for the multiple ports model. If you are using the controller, you can disable it in the click switch > Config > Port Config. That'll turn off the PoE on the port.

 

About the PoE, I'd like to comment that our switch is IEEE 802.3 standard PoE. I am not sure why would your device get fried but if it is standard PoE, it does not supply power directly to the device but tests its power specs with a minimum voltage and amp.

So far, I have not experienced or seen any cases of 802.3 would fry a device. You might take a look at the specs of your device and see how it works if it needs proper grounding and such.

  @Clive_A   Are you saying that if I disable that port via the Omada interface, only POE is disabled on that port?  It looks like packet forwarding thru that port was disabled also.   -Bill
