Hey folks,

Go easy on me, I've not had this switch for long so it may well be user error.

I have tried to power a couple of devices with POE from this switch, without success. The first being a Unifi AP, which I couldn't get to work, so went back to the POE Injector I got with it. Currently I'm trying to get a Reolink POE Video Doorbell working with it, with little success.

The Reolink is 802.3af compatible, which I believe means it should work perfectly with this switch. The POE Indicator on the front of the switch just flashes green.

Log shows...

Any ideas?

Hi @NeoDude

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

Try a 3ft new cable. Might be a cable issue.

And other possible reasons: Why my PoE powered device cannot work properly when connected to the PoE Switch?

  @Clive_A

I've tried 5 different cables now, still no change. I've tried 5 different ports, no change.

*EDIT*

Got it working. It would appear that POE does not like shielded cables.

Do you have a different PoE device to test it out?

I would assume it is a problem with your device.

If this persists with a different one or TP-Link one, you can consider RMA.

  @Clive_A

Thanks for the efforts, but as per my edit above, I got it working. Seems POE doesn't like shielded cables.

I tried 5 different cables, all shielded, with no joy. As soon as I tried the brand new unshielded cable supplied with the camera, it sprang into life.

  @NeoDude

FYI, I don't think POE cares if a cable is shielded or not, unless there is a grounding issue either in the POE switch or the device that you are trying to power.  We use shielded cables a lot.  Sounds like something is causing a short when you are using a shielded cable, as the shielded cable will create a common grounding point to both devices.
