TPLink Software - Routers/Controllers/Switches. Winge/Advice/Other
I work for an MSP, we work with alot of different equipment and I just am astounded by how far behind TP Link is. I am a fan of TP Link, I'll cheer for you guys but damn there's some real flaws in alot of things.
I'll give some examples. I had a POE Switch playing up on a site the other day, fair enough this was my mistake but I decided to turn off a port to do a test to see if the device in question would come back up online and get the right IP since it was reserved (it'd gotten a different IP somehow). It did, so I was like well I'll just turn all the ports on and off quickly and that should fix it (I was very busy). Not thinking or realising I'd turn the port off that connects said switch to the internet. So in the end I had to get the client to reset the the thing and readopt it. Joy and I was like........ man I wouldn't probably have made this mistake with a Ubquiti POE switch..... BECAUSE IT'S SO MUCH CLEARER....... I'll attach screen shots below as EXAMPLES....... Like the POE Ports say nothing, no device names, no colours no anything....... Ubiquiti is so clear..... its like hey I can see that port goes to the main router etc better not touch that one.
Then there is like the fact basically everywhere you go on a TPLINK setup it doesn't show active live traffic up/down or every device. Ubiquiti does that basically everywhere, your connection is bogging down it's REALLY EASY to see what ........ I am do the point I am possibly going to sell all my tplink gear myself for my home and switch, very sad. There is not enough progress. There's 3rd party firewalls like ProofPoint etc that can integrate, where's that? Where's the honeypot as required by some cyber insurance now. The mobile app why can I not see all the active clients and all the data current being utilised on the internet so if a machine is bogging down a connection why isn't it clear on the mobile app etc.
You guys need to hire more people and work 5x faster. We have new laws coming into Australia and TP Link is about to get left behind.
Then there are VERY OLD things that annoy me, on the dash board where you show WIFI devices and their signal strength, so if something's say -70 ....... WHY CAN'T I CLICK ON THAT AND SEE ALL THE DEVICES THAT HAVE BAD WIFI CONNECTIVITY.......... ???? So I can assign them a better access point.
Like come on man ........ Your IDS stuff isn't fast enough, the new routers coming out will be out of date by the time they arrive. It's just disappointing. I would URGE TP Link engineers to try using Ubiquity for a good week or two, learn ....... because this is stuff MSP's, Admins, Management want..........
The screen shots speak for themself. Honestly TP Link has lost business even with us because isn't just not upto scratch, same with Site to Site VPN, would be a simpler thing for that. Wireguard is still also not fixed properly, it's not very good to use in comparison.
The screen shots speak for themselves. Even more annoying I bought some 8 port 2.5Gbit switches myself, two of for home........ non Omada as there were not available at the time and now I see BY DEFAULT they are........ money waste. I would have LOVED to have had those in my house on the Omada.... I moved my own Controller OFF my OC200 as it was dog .... and put them in a Linux VM on Hyper-V with 4x AMD Ryzen Cores with 3GB RAM.... and it's rediculus how fast it is now.
Also we should be able to adopt any device anywhere in the world with the MAC Address, maybe Omada needs to check TP Link servers for default devices (they could report to TPLink) before being adopted to report to the controller itself etc.
