I have been using TP managed switch, router, controller, and WAPs for the past 4 years.  I initally used OpenVPN to connect and Windows RDP to connect to a computer.

 

At some point, probably 18 months ago, the OpenVPN connection stopped working.  I switched to a PPTP connection and have been able to connect since.  I am trying to get OpenVPN back up and running but have been unsuccessful.  I have probably burned up 10+ hours trying everything I can think of to get it fixed (including a few hours this morning).  OpenVPN Connect works and I can see a connection in the controller software.  However, I am unable to connect, or even ping, the computer I need to RDP to.

Hi  @Leeroy_J 

 

On the controller, you can see the OpenVPN connection, while you can't ping the RDP IP, this is mostly because the connection is blocked by the firewall or anti-virus software of the RDP PC. 

 

What's more, since you already tried troubleshooting a lot yourself and get no luck, I believe you already checked our troubleshooting guides. I would recommed you contacting our hotline team, they will provide a real-time and more specific help for you. 

 

BTW, please first provide the model number of the gateway you are using.

  @Vincent-TP  I will do that.  I am using an ER605 V1 (think it's a V1).  I will check the firewall settings on the computer I am tryinf to RDP to.

 

It was weird because it worked.  Then it didn't but PPTP works. 🤷‍♂️

PPTP uses TCP port 1723, while OpenVPN defaults to port 1194. This difference in ports could be a the reason.
