Model: OC200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.35.5 Build 20250326 Rel.41966

I am new to the forums and Omada setup.  I want to start off by apologizing if this subject or inquiry is redundant.  Unfortunately, I am at a loss and uncertain as to why the Omada captive portal does not load or initiate upon connecting to it's wifi SSID.  Please help?

Devices:

OC200 Controller v1.6 (Firmware: 1.35.5 Build 20250326 Rel.41966)

-IP: 192.168.10.2

ER605 Router v2.6 (Firmware: 2.2.6 Build 20240718 Rel.82712)

-IP: 192.168.10.1

TL-SG2008P Switch v3.2 (Firmware: 3.20.1 Build 20240115 Rel.72847)

-IP: 192.168.10.3

(2x) EAS610 AP's v3.0 (Firmware: 1.5.3 Build 20250208 Rel. 60097)

-IP: 192.168.10.10

-IP: 192.168.10.11

Default LAN: 192.168.10.1/24   DNS: 1.1.1.1,9.9.9.9 (VLAN 10)

SETTINGS:

TEST PORTAL LAN: 192.168.90.1/24

- DNS: 1.1.1.1,9.9.9.9 (VLAN 90)

TEST PORTAL SSID:  PORTAL

- Guest Network Enabled

- Securtiy NONE

- SSID Broadcast Enabled

- Add VLAN ID 90

*** Under the WLAN summary all of the above are checked, enabled, and displayed.

PORTAL SETTINGS:

- SSID & Network (Both Portal Network and Portal SSID are checked)

- HTTPS Redirect: Disabled

- Authentication: Simple Password

ACL's:

- I did have ACL's blocking the TEST PORTAL from the default LAN but was enabled and disabled.

THE ISSUE:

The captive portal screen does not initiate or pop up after logging into the TEST PORTAL SSID nor does it prompt for any password.  I have used multiple IOS and OSX devices as well as multiple windows (edge) operating systems.  All of which, I have cleared the browser cookies and history.  I have also repeated the Omada setup numerous times including a hard reset and reinstallation of the latest firmware for all omada devices.

Is the client not communicating with the controller to initiate the captive portal upon SSID login?  If yes, how do I fix or enable it to do so?  Is it an ACL or port setting?  If yes, what do I need to do?

Also note that I have not yet connected or enabled any internet access to the router.

Again I apologize if my inquiry is redundant.  I'm sure it's probably something very simple or overlooked.  Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated?  Thank you.

Hi  @omadanub

This is mostly because of the ACL settings.

The portal authentication function requires a controller to maintain it, and the authentication process needs to communicate with the controller. It is highly likely that your ACL device is blocking this process. Please disable or delete your ACL configuration to see if the issue resolves.

If that's the case, please create another permit ACL rule, to allow the communication between the controller IP and the portal network. Below is a guide for your reference:

How to allow guest network to access specific device on the main network by configuring EAP ACL?

  @Vincent-TP

Thank you so much for the reply.  It appears that I have found the "solution".  Initially, I was under the immpression that an internet/broadband connection was NOT required for setting up, rather, test the captive portal.  Any ACL's set, basically did nothing.  Once the router detected an internet gateway, the captive portal was able to initiate.

Has anyone been able to intiate the captive portal without any internet connection?

Hi  @omadanub

If the test portal is in the LAN, it can work without Internet access.

However, if you are using an external portal outside the LAN, we will need Internet access.
