I am looking to buy new APs for my house, but I am not sure if I should buy ones with MU-MIMO? Will it improve my experience? Also I should note that I will be using the wifi for file transfers to my SMB server, because I back up my laptop that way. Should I go for MU-MIMO one with only 867mbps or without? Or should I buy the EAP330 which has 1300mbps throughput on 5GHz but no MU-MIMO?

For home use I would suggest the Deco M9 Plus. After my tests it's the fastest on wi-fi, and with the mesh it's easy to deploy/expand your home network.

I don't know, if I would want to go the mesh route, because I already have a router, that I want to keep, but if I put the deco into bridge mode it will lose it's guest feature, right? also the mesh ones have less settings than proper APs (correct me if I am wrong), because they are targeted on less tech savvy people.

EDIT: Also the deco is WAYY more expensive

MU-MIMO is one of the most important feature of 802.11ac Wave 2. MU-MIMO technology can improve your home network capacity and efficiency by allowing Wi-Fi to communicate with multiple devices simultaneously. This decreases the time each Wi-Fi device has to wait to send or receive data from the Internet, as a result improving your home Wi-Fi experience. It will improve the wireless connection performance if you have two or above wireless devices using the Wi-Fi at the same time. You can refer to: https://www.tp-link.com/en/faq-2098.html

Maybe you can choose EAP225v3 or EAP245v3, it is the flagship model of EAP products.

You can use the deco as a router - like me, I have my primary router and the deco for wi-fi. But if you switch the deco to AP mode, you will loose only the parental control features. The price : in Hungary the EAP330 cost ~200 USD, the deco M5-3pack cost ~180USD. What extra settings/features do you need at home ?

Does a DECO do vlan when used in AP mode. Each SSID should have a different VLAN.

Deco does not support Multi-VLAN function.
