WBS210 base station, It can be use as Access Point ?

Hello

I am reading the datasheet of this product and I am understanding than I can use this base station with the panel antena as Access point.

Is it true ?

Thanks and Reagards

Javier

Yes, it can be used as an AP. Note that it has been designed to work as an outdoor AP for long-range directional links with CPE210s as clients.

If you use it as an AP for consumer devices such as smartphones, tablets etc. it would work, too, but not over long ranges. Consumer clients do not have such powerful antennas, but they do have to sent data over the air, too (people often tend to forget this).

What's more, the sector antenna (TL-ANT2415MS) has an antenna beam width of 120º (6dB)/90º (3dB), which means that the AP needs to be 15m apart to cover an area (sector) of 30m. If you want to supply a WLAN to consumer clients, then an omnidirectional antenna such as TL-ANT2410MO (360º) would be much more useful, albeit still over short ranges.

BTW: there is an own forum for Wireless Boradband products such as WBS and CPE.

Thank you very much for your answer.

My intentional is create a networkt for cover 500.000 m2.

Takeing into consideration than the customer devices do not over long range.

I would like to create a network with 3 or 4 antennas witch covers 3 or 4 sectors of 90º each one.

And maybe cover the entire area, Could I install CPE210 and this one could works as repeater ?

 Is is posible ?

Or I have to connect a WIFI antena into the Ethernet connector of the CPE210.

Thanks and Regards

Javier

Do you mean  fivehundred thousand m², which would be 500,000 m² in english notation (roughly 707m x 707m)? No change.

Typical WiFi ranges for smartphones with free LoS to the AP and a stable connection are between 15m and 45m, depending on model, regulatory region etc.

Definitely no. You would need dozens of CPEs for the whole area. Repeater mode would need all CPEs to use the same 2.4 GHz channel and each repeater would cap total bandwidth by factor 2 for the following CPE. What's more, a CPE210 has directional antennas with a beam width of 65º, not 360º.

WBS/CPEs are not designed for such a use case. They are desigend for P2P inks in the kilometers range between 2 CPE/WBS or for P2MP between a single WBS and a small number of CPEs.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I mean 500,000 m2 (Thousand of meters).

Are there any solution in TP-LINK to cover all this area with WiFi ?

Or maybe the posibiliti of create wifi network with mesh tecnology.

Or Maybe create a network like this picture:

The size of the area is just one parameter of many in setting up a WiFi network for a large area.

How many clients would you want to supply with WiFi? Is it a stadion or do you want to connect an urban district?

@JavierMartin

Hello

It is a big factory and they want to connect some devices.

Like some mobiles, sensors for measure data, tablets. etc..

My idea is begin for the base station and some CPEs and go incresease the network by demand of the customer.

Maybe in the future will conect 100 devices.

Thanks

Javier

I would use EAP225-Outdoor as APs wired to an infrastructure network, not a wireless backhaul between APs. A factory should have the budget to build such an infrastructure if it does not exist already.

@JavierMartin

In my case the Base Station will be locate from 900 mts from the end CPE.
Do you think if I install a CPE indoor, It could connect with the base station locate outside, arround 500 meters?

Thanks

Javier

No. You would need to mount CPEs always outdoors and ensure that there is a fresnel zone clearance between them. Then 500m or 900m distance is no problem for CPE/WBS.

See this story for a deployment of CPEs over 538m.
