Model: TL-R600VPN
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I purchased this for home use.  May have been overkill but needed a solution to move files across root/mounted folders on external hard drive.  The external hard drive manufacturer suggested purchasing a gigabit router and connecting my PC and external hard drive to the router.  I connected the PC to port 5 and the external hard drive to port 3 and can create network drives from my PC to the external hard drive but moving a large volume of files appears to result in no activity, whereas if I connect to my home router with Internet connectivity and dozens of devices connect I see at least some progress but just very slow (1%/4 hours).  My logic and that of the manufacturer seems flawed unless there is configuration settings which I need to understand (no network experience here, just crossing fingers that plug and play works.) but thought if I just have the two devices connected on a standalone LAN connected over CAT7 ethernet cables, if that even matters, that I would get a higher transfer rate than what I am getting.  Just as an added note, I am trying to move 74K (105GB) jpg files various sizes to another folder on the external drive that is mounted as a separate folder.  If it were the same root folder, the transfer rate is equal to my home router speed but across mounted folders I've been staring at the file explorer (moving files window) for the last 7 hours and not even 1% but I can explore folders all over the external hard drive with no problems just slow.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can access the management web of R600VPN to check the port speed. The default IP address of R600VPN is 192.168.0.1. If your PC uses dynamic IP, just acccess 192.168.0.1 in browser. Then you can enter the management web. And default username and password is admin/admin. Or it may require you need to create the username and password if it's your first time to access this web.

Then you can check the port speed for port 3 and port5, make sure they are 1000MF. And check if your PC and external hard drive get IP address from R600VPN. Just check DHCP client to confirm that there is the PC and external hard drive in the list.

@Andone

I was able to access the management dashboard and verify that the port speeds but the speed is terribly slow, I transferred 27,000 files (2.6GB) and it took 7.5 hours.

You can try to use Iperf to test the speed. Confirm whether the problem is related to the router itself or related to the application.
