VPN connection drops when download
VPN connection drops when download
Hi,
I had 2 TL-R600VPN connected through the Internet in L2TP/IPsec.
When I use heavy download, the VPN connection breaks then restart after a while.
It seems keepalive (or hello or whatever) is dropped and the VPN link lost.
Connection to the Internet is 300Mb/s (fiber) on one side and 1Gb on the other.
Is somebody had this issue? solved it?
Thanx in advance,
MrEd

Hello,
Unfortunately, in the configuration TL-R600 & TL-R600, connection still drops (after a docker pull) and kill all connections on the main TL-R600 :-(.
As usual, no very interesting mesages in the log:
TL-R600 server: not even a disconnect message, only a IKE responder/phase1/phase2
TL-R600 client: no info of what happen, juste disconnected and IKE restart messages.
Still wait for a working solution...

Dear @M.Ed,
Do you mean that it makes no difference with the beta firmware? To assist you effectively, we still need to check further information to locate the problem. Could you please tell me the application scenarios and provide the network topology for analysis? If possible, please also upload the two routers's log for checking. Thank you so much!

Hello,
Yes, it seems more stable... But not enough to turn off band limitation...
As described at the very beginning of the post, it's a quiet simple architecture:
on a side:
[PCs] --- ethernet Gb/s --- (Egress/Ingress set to 10Mb/s) [ TPl client l2tp ] --- ethernet Gb/s --- [ internet box ] --- fiber 300Mb/s --- internet
on the other side:
[PC] --- ethernet Gb/s --- [TPl server l2tp ] --- ethernet Gb/s (set to 100Mb/s) --- internet
If nothing is set to limit bandwidth, the kill command is "docker pull" from the client side. Before this version, a long scp was sufficient to drop down tunnel...
Thanks for help but you have to understand I though buying a full working device and didn't plan to spend time to debug... And it seems there are other big issues (didn't tried with last version) like server accept l2tp connection without ipsec if client (from linux) ask for (of course ipsec encryption is not set to auto in TPl server)...

MrEd

Dear @Pkaser,

Is this beta available publicly yet? Im having thr same issue with the same equipment.
Here is the download link for the beta firmware:
TL-R600VPN_v4_4.0.4_Build 20200923(Beta).zip
Please be sure you have read The Beta Test Agreement before proceeding!
It's recommended to back up the current settings before you upgrade the beta firmware in case you may lose settings after the firmware upgrade.

Hi,
Well, I still have the problem... But there is no evidence it's because of the router...
What I observed is some UDP packets are dropped between the 2 points when I override a 20Mb/s limit... (of course nobody knows the reason of this limit ).
And, obviuosly, VPN use UDP packets... It means if I send big data from a lan to the other, packets will be encapsulated in UDP packets and if some are dropped tunnel could detect a shutdown of this tunnel...
To check that (the BW limitation), I used iperf3 from A to B and B to A without routers.
To limit the impact, I forced physical Ethernet to 10Mb/s which is not a good solution...

MrEd
