Hi Gurus,

I have a situation involving the TL-ER6120. Basically, I wanted to setup two (same) ISP Connections into the ER6120. Apparently, both connections will be using the same VLAN (as defaulted by the ISP Providers) to get the internet access. Thus, it is not possible to do so for both to be on such setting (same VLAN) for both WAN.

Can you please advise me on how to setup the network? I can put one WAN on PPPoE just fine on the fore mentioned VLAN, but for the second connection, what WAN mode would suit the situation best? 

 

Here is the layout, sort of


Modem1 -> TLER6120 wan1 -> LAN1 to core switch1
Modem2 -> TLER6120 wan2 -> LAN1 to core switch1

 

It would have been ideal if the ISP Connections come from different providers, unfortunately that is not the case. Please advise.

Modem2 -> RouterX (PPPoe) -> WAN2 ER6120 (?) -> LAN 1 to Core Switch1

 

Yes, it is. Please ensure that the RouterX is configured well and you can get direct Internet access from the RouterX.

 

It's suggested to test the connection with a PC, Modem2 -> (WAN) RouterX with PPPoE(LAN) -> PC, would the PC be able to obtain IP address properly and get Internet access in the connection? you may refer to this following guide to check the IP info on a PC.

If the PC can get Internet access directly, then it should also work if you connect the ER6120 with Dynamic IP behind the RouterX. If not, connect the same PC after the ER6120, Modem2 -> (WAN) RouterX with PPPoE(LAN) -> (WAN2) ER6120 (LAN) -> PC, access the ER6120's web UI to do MAC clone for checking (go to Network -- MAC, locate to WAN2 and click Clone Current PC's MAC, Save).

The WAN mode is up to the ISP. Are you able to set up the PPPoE connection on the modem?

 

If you get two different PPPoE accounts for the two ISP connections, you may configure the second modem with PPPoE and then set up the second WAN as Dynamic IP on the TL-ER6120 router, the setup is like:

Modem1(bridge mode) -> TLER6120 wan1 configured with PPPoE-> LAN1 to core switch1
Modem2(set up PPPoE) -> TLER6120 wan2 configured with Dynamic IP -> LAN1 to core switch1

Unfortunately, I can't set the PPPoE in the modem.

Rather I was suggested by a colleague, to take another router to do the PPPoE authentication and from one of the router's LAN ports, connect it to WAN2 of the ER6120. But I'm not sure on what WAN mode would suit such circumstances? I have tried Dynamic IP, which doesn't work.

Hi Fae, Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delayed feedback. I am pleased to inform you that the method worked! Putting a router in between and setting the WAN2 as Dynamic IP in ER-6120, the traffic connects and flows accordingly. Thus, I am marking your reply as the solution. Thank you again Fae.
