Upstream it is has connected 2 WAN ports with static ip

Each LAN port is connected to a WR-840N, three in total.  WANs of the WR840N are asigned to Static IP.

It is used for load balancing.

I am ready to throw it in the trash!

Pls help with any sugguestions as to why this this is crashing!

Dear @RenatoE,

This router reboots for no aparent reason and also reboots 3 WR-840N routers that are on the LAN interface.

It might be caused by a power shortage. Have you checked the power supply of the routers?

For the TL-ER6020 V2 router, ensure you use the original power supply, plug into AC100-240V~50/60Hz.

For the TL-WR840N router, the power supply should be 9 V ⎓ 0.6 A.

In the proces it also erases the time settings of the WR-840N routers to 1970 factory time.

Would the other settings such as login password restore to factory default settings?

Please confirm if the routers are rebooted or are reset to factory default settings, they are different things.

Upstream it is has connected 2 WAN ports with static ip

Each LAN port is connected to a WR-840N, three in total.  WANs of the WR840N are asigned to Static IP.

If you unplug the cables from the 3 LAN ports, would the issue still occur on the TL-ER6020 router and TL-WR840N routers? How about if you unplug the cables from the 2 WAN ports?

In addition, what's the hardware and firmware version of the other WR840 routers?

@Fae,

Thank you for the response!

1. Power supply should be fine, it came with the original equipment bought two months ago.

2. The WR840N are not factory reset, only the time settings are erased and brought back to its factory default of 1970.

3. Only happens when router is fuctioning.

WR840N details:

Firmware:0.9.1 4.16 v01e4.0 Build 180709 Rel.56645n

Hardware:TL-WR840N v6 00000007

4.  In the log of the ER6020 there is a number of unusual events that are not loged in any other TP-Link router of the network.  It would seem that there is some kind of an attack but I think this is ER6020 miss interpretation.

In general the introduction of this equipment in the network has been a disaster for user experience:

1. Almost daily interruption of internet service and sluguish network response.

2. The router sometimes fails to balance the load and sends almost all of the load through one of the wan ports.

3. Network lock ups where the only way to restar the internet service is to manually reboot the ER6020.

4. Unable to set a 3 am automatic reboot to earase possible memory leaks, I suspect this because the router problems increase after the first day of operations.

I have used the WR840N router for many years and have more that 30 currently in my small network.  These are excelent routers so I thought that ER6020 would give me an easy way to upgrade my network to have 2 internet providers.  Unfortunately this has not been the case.

@RenatoE @Fae ,

I've been facing exactly the same issue for about 4 months now.

The router goes down and System Time goes back to 01/01/2018.

I have to manually synchronize it with my pc clock and then it goes up again.

Let me know if you were able to solve this.

Really appreciate

Anselmo

@aaraujo I replaced the router with a Mikrotik.  After a little programing I have not had any problems for months.  In my opinion TP-Link should issue a recall on this product.  It is garbage!

Sorry to hear that you have some trouble with the router, could you please describe the problem in more detail so that I can try to help?

How is the router connected in the network? How many WAN links and do you also TL-WR840R routers in your network?

How often would the issue happen, does the issue start from the first day you install the router?

Are you using the original power adapter to power up the router?

What's the hardware and firmware version of your TL-ER6020 router?

If you are willing to do further troubleshooting, I'd love to escalate your case to the senior engineer for further investigation.

@Fae No thanks.  I already went through the process with tp link engineer.  I dont have time to do it again.

@Fae

How is the router connected to the network? How many WAN links and do you also TL-WR840R routers in your network?

In my case, very simple setup: 2 WANs links straight to ER6020 ports. Internally, only one server connected to this router.

I have a VPN IPsec setup on this router as well.

How often would the issue happen, does the issue start from the first day you install the router?

It varies. Today for example I had this issue about 5x so far. Last week at least twice a day. It goes on and off. It started about 2 months after the router set up.

Are you using the original power adapter to power up the router?

Original power cable connected to a UPS. No issues with any other device connected to this same UPS source.

What's the hardware and firmware version of your TL-ER6020 router?

Hardware v2.0. Firmware 2.0.2 Build 20180702 Rel 59031

Edit: It's been really annoying today. Router barely stays up for more than 15min.
