EAP245v3 No DFS with Latest firmware
HI,
I am running on the latest firmware. i see very limited set of channels and not DFS / Indoor channels being shown in 5Ghz band.
I saw a few posts highlighting that this feature was added in EAP245 V3.0 (20190731), Although i am running more recent version released in Dec 2020, the channels are not visible.
Am i missing some configuration, or is the firmware broken ??

It could be that based on your geographical location the DFS channels are not available. I also have a 245 in the UK running the same firmware and I can indeed see the extended channels
Are you running via a controller or standalone AP?

Yes, i am running in standalone mode. Do you think that could be a problem ?
Any pointers on how can validate current geographic location. right now i could only see timzone that is related to geography.
PS: Firmware is EU

Done a bit of digging in the forums for this issue, looks like we have an answer
If you are in Europe, then you also have DFS channels as mid band that you can use if you dont see much interference from aircraft or weather doppler radars in yoru areas, else as soon as weather radar sweeps, your DFS channel AP will drop those channels as per law and will start looking for the new channels. Accordingly, DFS channels can never be staticaly set and AP needs to be set to auto channel to make use of these.

I cant say for certain but it looks like it needs a controller to use these channels via manual selection.
Is there a reason you specifically need to use DFS channels? they tend to have lower transmit power in most countries. If interference is your driver look to the high band 5Ghz (153 for example) as these are rarely used outside large deployments.

If you feel like it try firing up a software controller (v4.2.8 recommended) and adopt the device, see how that works and if DFS is there. I have a controller for my 2x 245s its fun to play with
Just remember to backup ur standalone config to revert when done!!

@Philbert I thought that was only with the outdoor EAPs?
I'm in the UK and have 2 EAP245s and the EAP225 outdoor, and the EAP225 outdoor would change channels all the time from a manual setting of 100. I gave up and set it to channel 40.
But the indoor EAPs have stuck at 56 & 100.

I just started out with EAP and this seems to be a good advice, will backup active config and try with adopting controller.
I am not hundred percent sure, but probably, other radars should not not be a problem, since there are no weather stations or airport nearby. however, this is worth a try.
and you you are right, i was basically looking these bands due to interference. Both the lower and higher frequencies, seems to be have 8-10 networks or more. This was not the case 6-8 months back, but now its bit congested.
i shall check it during night time and revert. Thanks for pointers

I flicked one of my 245s over to 64 on the DFS when the OP asked the question. So far it appears to have stuck to it...
Its something I have never manually tried before, only time I have ever seen DFS channels used was when the controller selected it and this was generally in bigger / high placement setups (schools usually)
