Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.0 Build 20200930 Rel.36519

I just unboxed, updated to the latest firmware, factory reset with the pinhole, and adopted to Omada SDN a brand new TL-R605.

For some reason, no matter whether Hardware Offload is enabled or disabled, I get great upload speeds but awful download speeds. I've tested it on both a Spectrum 600x35 connection and on an AT&T FIber 1000 connection.  Speed test results from the AT&T FIber 1000:

Any ideas what could be causing the weirdly slow download speeds? I don't have any Bandwidth Control or Profile settings made.

It's recommended to use Iperf to test the throughput of the router. See the FAQ below.

Hi Fae! Thanks for the reply. Not really helpful though as it doesn't explain why there is low download throughput on speedtests of only the TL-R605. An Asus router (RT-AC68U) connected to the same cable modem and fiber connections gets full speed downloads and uploads. A spare TP-Link Archer A7 I had laying around tests at full speed also. Even my TP-Link Deco M5 units get better wired throughput than the TL-R605. All signs point to the TL-R605 being underpowered, faulty, or there being some setting that's slowing down download throughput only - but I can't find it if there is.

I had another TL-R605 sitting in a box unopened, so I decided to do some testing.  I upgraded the firmware to the latest but did not attach it to the Omada Controller.

I have this virgin TL-R605 connected to an AT&T Fiber 1000 connection. My Asus router consistently gets ~940x940 on speed tests on this connection.

Dear @CLT-Geek,

With the iPerf test, we can determine whether the TL-R605 is functioning well. So I suggested running the iPerf test first.

To confirm, is the TL-R605 in different sites connected to the same ISP line?

Do you get the same result if you run the speed test on the Controller Dashboard?

May I know what other equipment you have on the existing site? Without other equipment, would the speed be better?

By the way, there is only one firmware released for the TL-R605 at present, where do you get the latest firmware for the update?

Sorry to ask so many questions, there may be something we overlooked, just trying to figure out the problem.

@CLT-Geek

I seem to be experiencing this same behavior.  I just unboxed a new TL-R605 and was running LAN<->WAN iperf tests at about 919-923Mbit.  I adopted it with a software controller running in a docker container on a freshly imaged Raspberry Pi 3B, and updated the firmware to 1.0.1.  I'm not sure which of these actions caused the degradation, but now I am only seeing around 210Mbit.

Ok, I just did some more tests...

Removed TL-R605 from Controller ("Forget") - No change

Restored original TL-R605(UN)_V1_20200930 firmware - WAN<->LAN iperf3 throughput restored (919-933Mbit)

Adopted TL-R605 from Controller - throughput remained in the 919-933Mbit range.

It appears that there is a performance regression with the following firmware: ER605(UN)_V1_20210113

FWIW: I sent the 2 units I had back to Amazon a day after I posted my last results. So I can't test the firmware they released on 3/3 but I had my problems on firmware TL-R605v1_un_1.0.0_20200930-rel36519_up.

before the firmware upgrade just after unboxing the er605 got something like 950Mbit after upgrade of the firmware no more than 300Mbit.

is this recognized as an issue and will be managed by the 1.1.x version of the firmware?

@CLT-Geek I have a similar problem but with the uploads. The download speeds are unaffected.

Same issue here with brand new TL-R605

Tow ISPs, one with 1000Mbps and a 200Mbs (backup), download speeds goes lower than 300Mbps after router TL-R605v1_un_1.0.0_20200930-rel36519_up.

Download speeds directly connected tot he 1000Mpbs ISP's router were 940-985 Mbps at the time of the tests.

Any solutions?
