Reduce max as possible the wireless range in OMADA products.
Hello everyone,
please, I have 20 small offices (5 metres x 5 metres) together. And multiples devices need connexion by wireless.
In each office need to use some OMADA products like:
- Ceiling Mount AP
- Wall Plate AP
here the link products:
https://www.tp-link.com/no/business-networking/omada-eap/
My question is:
For security reasons, I would like to use the small range wireless as posible.
I know in the configuration I can select the option Tx power, and select the minimun value, but I would like to reduce more, like range for only about 5 metres.
In this way the people in other offices can not access to other.
All OMADA EAP (Ceiling Mount AP, Wall Plate AP) will be connected to the same Switch TL-SG2428P
1. Do you have any advaice for max security between offices?
2. Do you know how can I reduce max as posible the range of the OMADA EAP wireless?
3. How can I prevent any comunication or share info, attack, beetween the offices?
Thanks in advance.

To prevent communication between the offices,
If you don't need multiple SSIDs on each EAP and isolate the SSIDs, you could isolate the network with 802.1Q VLAN on the switch.

Hi Fae,
thanks for your help, looks the solution I need.
Please, let me know if I can do the 802.1Q VLAN with the next devices or better you recommend other hardware:
- 20 Access Point EAP 115-Wall
Can I do this configuration with Omada?
deeply thanks.

Yes, and yes.
Note: the TL-SG2428P will release new firmware to support Omada SDN shortly.

Hi Fae,
please last question, I can see some models like EAP 225/245 have an option bridge, in this way I can save cable in large networks.
Do you think, if I use bridge, the security of my network decrease?
If I use this bridge feature, in my installation about 11 EAP devices will be connected together.
Thanks

Where do you see there is an option "bridge" for EAP225/245?
In fact, there is no option called "bridge" on Omada EAPs, but there is a "Mesh" feature that allows you to deploy EAPs wirelessly.
Besides, only certain models support Mesh feature, EAP225/245 V3 support while Wall Plate AP like EAP115-Wall doesn't.
I don't think it's a good idea to deploy the EAPs wirelessly just to save cables by the way.
More details about the EAP Mesh feature, please check this FAQ.

If I use this bridge feature, in my installation about 11 EAP devices will be connected together.
For an office network, wired deployment is a better choice for stability and security.
It's recommended to deploy the EAPs with cable if condition allowed.

Hi Fae,
thanks for your advaice, I don`t go to save cable.
I design this draw, please help me to take the right decision.
I worry about the security rooms, I want offer to the users the most security connection, they needn't share nothing between other rooms, like a guest in a Hotel Room.
At the same time the same switch provide some ports for the public EAP, it's good idea?
How can I protect hacking from Public area to room, or room to room?
Here the scheme:
