Hi,

 

I have one EAP 245 connected to my linksys poe switch.

When I use iperf to test the wifi connection speed of the EAP245, I get a speed of around 120Mbps consistently.

The iperf server is connected to the poe switch using wire.

Desktops connected to the switch using wire get a download/upload of 900Mbps consistently.

My test phone is about 3 feet away from EAP 245.

If I connect my phone to a TP-Link AX1800 router, I get a download speed of around 450Mbps consistently.

So the problem is the download speed of EAP245 is quite slow.

Is it designed this way?

The theoretical download speed of EAP245 should be much higher than 120Mbps if I am close enough to it in my opinion.

Is there a way I can improve it?

@Philbert Thanks for the reply. My problem was solved. But it is not band steering. I hav different ssid name for 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz. I did a reset. The speed increases significantly. I compared the wireless setting. The channel and bandwidth choices are automatic now. I see they are set to 36 and 20 mhz. I previously set them to 161 and 80 mhz manually. This is the only difference I can find.

If your rate is 120mbps

 

It sounds likely you are connected on the 2.4ghz frequency and not the 5ghz, I would check this first. 

 

Im going to guess you are using an IPhone?   Apple devices are notoriously bad at band steering, so many times I have seen them stuck on 2.4ghz

Happy days!  Yeah that would have been my next advice when you confirmed the 5ghz

 

Generally AUTO is ok but I have on occasion had to force 80mhz wide channels
