Model: EAP245
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi!

I found two EAP245 v1 in a semi-local store for cheap. Before I open them up, I wanted to confirm wether they support whatever feature it is that I need.

My phone takes about one minute to change AP when the signal gets low. When I step outside, it is still connected to my indoor AP (EAP245 v3) and even though nothing works (browsing, video, music etc) it still takes about a minute to switch to the only AP with signal outside (MR600 in AP mode).

Can I solve this issue by getting the older EAP245 v1? The old model doesn't support Fast Roaming with a controller.

@nu1mlock

Hey

Roaming (quick roaming and standard roaming) requires a controller to facilitate the handover from AP to AP.   However as you using an EAP245v3 indoors and a MR600 outdoors, these two devices are from different families and a controller cannot be used with the MR600 as this range of hardware are not compatible with the Omada Controller, it will however work with the EAP245v3.  If you wish to use an outdoor AP that could roam with the EAP245v3 you should consider replacing the MR600 with the EAP225 Outdoor

The EAP245v1 is now older hardware and does not support the latest version of SDN (v4).  You could indeed get these APs roaming OK with the EAP245v3 provided you backdate the firmware on the v3 to 2.4, and run SDN v3 on the controller.

Either way to have a roaming you will require a controller, something like the OC200

@nu1mlock Only the EAP660 HD, EAP620 HD, EAP265 HD, EAP245 V3, EAP225 V3, and EAP225-Outdoor support seamless roaming. Ans this need to be configured on the Controller Software(it is free) or Hardware Controller(OC200 or OC300).

Both the Controller Software and Hardware Controller can enable Fast Roaming. If the PC with Controller Software turns down, the roaming function will also be not available. So this is the importance for the Hardware Controller.

If you still want to use the MR600 or the EAP245 v1 to achieve the roaming, you can set up the same wifi name and password for both of the units. This is not the actual roaming and also has some delay when shifting the signal.
