EAP issues?

Model: EAP610
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have noticed a weird problem with wifi on my EAP 610's. I've tried moving my EAP's around and seem to have the same result. It seems to happen most often on 2.4ghz, but might also happen on 5 and I just haven't noticed. The issue is Wifi will be strong and then suddenly I will have really slow connection speeds.

For example. I was just on a different floor than my AP and it was running very slow (to be expected). I then moved to my office 5 feet from the AP and I was still connected to 2.4 ghz. Connection speeds on the wifi card were showing between 80-100mbps and causing issues with my zoom meetting. After the meeting I turned wifi on and back off again which connected to the 5ghz with a link speed of 1.2gbs

Do these have issues switching from 2.5 to 5? Even then why would my 2.4 be so slow when I am so near the AP? Same thing happend when I was just 20 feet from my AP. I was having zoom issues where I would have to relocate to another room.

So far I am not too please with my purchase.

Edit: I'm running the following. OC200, ER 605,SG2008 v3, SG2008P and two EAP 610s. One hardwired and one mesh connected.

  @wickflair

Hey

Welcome to the forums and hopefully we can help you, but we will need some more information

How have you setup these APs?   Are they managed centrally by a controller or each one individual, also what device do you notice this on?  We talking Windows laptops or Ipads?

Does the signal drop completely as you move around?

I have never known the bandsteering to cause issues, usually its seamless.   The symptoms you are describing sound like you are running these in single AP mode with no controller.. therefore no roaming..

Also 2.4ghz in the modern setting is VERY congested and really not recommended for any type of streaming / zoom meetings, you would be better on the 5ghz for this.

If you can reply with as much detail as possible about your setup and testing we can try and help

@btx I updated my post with my gear. I was using a new hp laptop with a wifi 6 card and running windows 10. Also have had issues on my wifes iPhone and my android oneplus.

I'd prefer not to make 3 SSIDs but if that's the best way to make it work then, I might have to.

@Philbert  I did realized I do not have bandsteering enabled. Is there a guide for that?

Hi  @wickflair

The client device may auto switch to 2.4Ghz since it thought the 2.4Ghz wifi signal is "stronger". It also happens on client that does not support wifi 6 well.

You may try create a 5Ghz only ssid, and connect this test 5Ghz SSID. On Controller Client page, you will be able to see the EAP name that the client has been connected. Once the issue happen again, please check if the client is still connected to the cloest EAP. If it switch to the far away AP, you may face speed issue.

Another solution you may try is to lower the transmittion power. On Controller-->Devices-->choose the EAP-->on the right menu Config-->Radio, change the pwer to low.
