Update on 14 August, 2022:

The Omada Controller v5.4 has removed the periodic speedtest functionality, including the historical stats of speedtest. For more details, please refer to this thread post. Thank you for your attention!

------------------------------------------------------------------

This Article Applies to:

ER605 managed by Omada SDN Controller

ER7206 managed by Omada SDN Controller

Issue Description/Phenomenon:

Recently we received feedback that the Periodic Speed Test doesn't work though it's enabled, the Speed Test Statistics just shows nothing. And manual Speed Test on Dashboard (ISP Load) gets failure with no results.

Troubleshooting:

After troubleshooting with 2 different users, TP-Link Team found that the issue is caused by the incorrect WAN DNS Server config, as you can see as below, the WAN DNS server is set as the IP address within the LAN subnet.

As a result, the domain name cannot be resolved when speedtest runs and the controller cannot obtain the ookla speedtest configuration, which lead to the speedtest failure.

In this case, the issue can be resolved by deleting the wrong DNS or by re-configuring it with a public DNS server like 8.8.8.8.

Suggestion:

If you encounter such issue, please follow the troubleshooting above to check your WAN DNS settings. Besides, ensure your Omada Controller and Gateway (ER605/ER7206) are running with the latest firmware.

If the issue still exists after you try the suggestion above, please feel free to comment below.

Thank you in advance for your valuable feedback!

  @Seren

Hello,

I also encounter the same problem after switching to the latest version of the controller and the "Advanced setting" parameters are not configured,

However, when I connect to the controller via the mobile application the "ISP Load" data is fine displayed on the dashboard

Router: ER7206 v1.0
Controller Version: 5.4.6

Same issue with latest firmware 1.18.3 Build 20220715 Rel.56221 and controller version 5.4.7 on the OC200 and ER605. In my case the Speed Test button on the ISP Load widget and the Speed Test Statistics tabs are completely missing from the UI. I tried updating the DNS servers, but that didn't help. They were not set before and were dynamically assigned from my ISP.

Dear @Thomas777, @TonyGrekas@causemedia1017,

Thank you for posting your query in the community!

The Omada Controller v5.4 has removed the periodic speedtest functionality since the service provider of speedtest cannot find a better way to improve the accuracy and performance. As the periodic speedtest is currently removed, it's not necessary to display the speedtest graph in the Statistics section anymore. Once the vendor resolves the known issues, the periodic speedtest and the historical stats will be added back.

For more details, please refer to this post.

@Fae I see that the periodic speed test has been removed; however, the load balancing "Pre-Populate" function still exists with a broken/non-working speed test dialogue that seems to test (looks like it's doing something) but never fully tests both/multiple ISP connections, and also seems to return inaccurate information. Running the test also seems to 'confuse' the ER605 such that it appears offline to the OC300 / Omada controller solution for an unexpectedly long period.

Was this (not removing speedtest and/or the Pre-Populate function) an oversight or intentional?  Is the load balancing function supposed to still work?

Thanks!

Only the periodic speed test has been removed, the speed test function doesn't. If you find the test result is inconsistent with the ISP, you can customize the Internet Capacity upon your ISP by the edit option next to Internet. Check this post for more details.

@Fae Hi, how are we supposed to control (remotelly) the available download/upload bandwidht at any given time if we can't run speedtest on demand?

Thanks,

Mario
