Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0

I am trying to set up my ER605 to work with a Netgear LM1200 LTE modem.  When I connect a device directly to the modem, it remains connected and can access the internet.  When I connect the ER605 router, it connects for 2 to 3 minutes, but then it loses the connection and I get an alert that the WAN is down.  After 15 to 20 seconds, the connection will re-establish.   From 45 to 90 seconds later, the WAN will go down again.  It will repeat this cycle indefinitely.

I have tried Unicast both on and off, and I rebooted the modem after making the changes to the router settings.  No luck.

The modem in in Bridge mode.

I know just enough about networking to get myself in trouble so I'm hoping that there is a quick and easy fix by just changing some settings in the router.  There really isn't much to change in the modem.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  thanks in advance.

Which LAN ip do you get from the modem when you connect to the PC? default LAN on ER605 is 192.168.0.0/24 if you have the same on the modem it will crash, you can not have the same IP network on WAN and LAN.

Many routers use this network by default

  @shberge

The modem has an IP address of 192.168.5.1.  The router is 192.168.0.1.  I was not sure if I should change the modem to an address of 192.168.0.x to match the router setting.  I thought that because the modem was in bridge mode this would not be an issue, but I'm not certain.

No you can not have the same ip network on WAN and LAN, you say the modem is in bridge mode, then you should get a pubic ip not 192.168.5.0 network, have you tried to turn off bridge mode on the modem?

if you can connect a pc to the modem and get internet then you should also get internet on ER605

There is a public IP that is visible at the router. I assumed the 192.168.5.1 IP at the modem was for use when it was being used as a router also. I can get the internet at the ER605, but only for a short time. Then the WAN connection drops and it takes 15 to 20 seconds to restore. So I have about a minute of connection and then it goes away. Until it comes back. I have not turned off bridge mode at the modem because I thought that would create problems as both the modem and router were trying to manage IP on the rest of the network. Perhaps if I turned off DHCP at the modem, and set the modem IP to a value is different from the router IP.? As I said in my initial post, I know just enough about networking to get myself in trouble. thanks

there is no need to have on bridge if you do not need to have access to LAN via the internet, there is also no problem with DHCP on both routers, you connect WAN on is ER605 to the modem also you connect everything else you have to LAN the port on the ER605. if modem give you 192.168.5.0 there is no reason why it should not work.

it should be plug and play and work right away.

so try and turn off the bridge first and make it work then you can rather try turning on the bridge again later

As a side nuance here, LTE modems don't have true bridge mode.  The cellular WAN side has to be assigned an IP by the wireless carrier.  Most cell modems use something called 'Passthrough Mode', where some DHCP trickery is used to assign the same IP assigned to the modem's WAN to the first device to connect to the modem's LAN.  Often you must power cycle the LTE modem when switching between LAN devices.

Your modem only supports a single user per the manual...probably the reason your bought the ER605 in the first place.  You'll need to reset it when you change connected devices.

So my advice is configure ER605 WAN for IPv4, Dynamic (via DHCP).  Power cycle the modem, let it boot up (1-2min) THEN connect the ethernet cable between modem and ER650 WAN port.  Verify the IP assigned to the ER605 WAN port matches what you get from a PC connected to the ER605 LAN when it visits a website to verify your public IP  The exception being if your carrier is handing out private IP's (ie addresses that start with 10. or 172 or 192).  Note, your ER605 WAN should not get a 192.168.5.x address.

I think this is just a case of not starting from a proper initial state.

  @Uptonk

I changed the modem to router mode.  This caused it to restart, and after it was completely started I connected my ER605 to it.  I made no changes to the ER605 settings.  So far, it has been online for at least 15 minutes which is the longest that it has ever stayed connected.  All of my LAN devices seem to be working properly.

It seemed like the solution was too simple to work, but so far so good.

I appreciate the help from both of you.
