Model: EAP610-Outdoor
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.4 Build 20220126 Rel. 41123(4555)

Hi i installed an EAP 610 outdoor to serve the 2.4 band for 3 wifi cameras 30 m far from the EAP. I have a 1Gb optik internet.Eap is connected via 10m  ftp cable.

The 2.4 wifi measured by Ookla abot 20m far from the EAP is about 40-50 Mb/s.

I need the wifi only for 2 smart devices with minimum bandwith (1-5 Mb) and 3 wifi cameras wit maximum bandwith. (50-150Mb/s)
what have i to do? Is there somethings to set on the Eap?

 Btw a 5GHz wifi is running 250-300 Mbit/s on the same location, but i need 2.4 for my devices🙈.

thx a lot

  @LuboFranta

Hey

This is a common enough issue and sadly not one that is easy to fix..    Let me explain

2.4ghz is a very congested and limited frequency, thats why its been slowly replaced by 5ghz and now 6ghz.   Due to the congestion, lack of bandwidth etc its not uncommon to get around 50-70mbps as an average, at best you may be able to push this to 100mbps

Try changing the channel, see what you neighbours are on and find a free space to jump in.   Remember however that only 1  6  and 11 are not interfering, so 4, 9, 10 etc will just make things worse.  Use a scanner (wifi analyser for android) and see what is the best.  My guess is that its all flooded, choose the best of them  (channel 1  6 or 11) and set the EAP610 for that channel, OR  go to 13 which is usually not in use at all and can be a saviour... but not supported on some devices so if you cant connect.. thats the issue!

Under channel width, force 40mhz to get as much as possible for you.

Set Power as Auto or High.. (auto should be fine)

The EAP610 can support WiFi6 over 2.4ghz which is faster and better, not 5ghz speeds but improved.  However this is dependant on the client device also supporting WiFi6 which is unlikely from experience.  Check your device

Sadly welcome to the world of 2.4ghz.. fiddle with channels and see what you can do is really your only option.   Its an older technology and therefore inherently slow... sorry!!

  @Philbert thx a lot 👍 i will try. Another question is if it is ok when f.e. 2 devices are in front of EAP 610 about  only 15 m far and the wifi strength bars in Omada app are yellow as a poor signal strenght -62dBm... what would be in 100m?? Or 200m?

have a nice we.

Hey

-62db is an average signal strength, good would be in the 50s and anything less superb.   Try not to judge the colour of the bars as the quality of the signal, -62 should be useable for you!

A lot of the signal strength depends on the client connected, from experience some IOT devices (camera, sensors etc) are designed for max efficiency and therefore have a lower than usual wifi card, therefore a lower signal strength, its not uncommon.  Apple devices also do this is sleep mode to conserve power.

In terms of distance, 100meters is a big ask and 200m isnt going to be achievable.   From experience in real world you are going to get 70-80 meters at best.  The issue isnt the AP, its powerful enough to send that distance, its the client device (phone, camera etc) basically its not powerful enough to send the signal back that far.  Bear in mind clients are not as powerful as an AP and battery devices even worse.  You may find the phone / tablet / camera sees the wifi signal, just cant establish a connection as the signal its sending back to too weak to be acceptable.

If you are looking to cover 200 meters, personally I would have 2 other "mesh" APs in that distance to allow the signal to hop back  3 > 2 > 1.  Use a signal tester and aim to place hops when the signal is around -70db

  @Philbert

I'm having the same issue! I bought 4 610-Outdoor devices and none work on 2.4ghz. I have NO Neighbors within 5 miles of me. I live on a mountain top in North Carolina.

There is no other 2.4 Ghz Wifi in my area. I have no congestion and I'm getting 2.4 ghz going on and off, disconnecting, slow speeds when online.

I have checked everything, Settings, POE, Router (PFSENSE 4100). It's my beliefe that they have an issue with 2.4GHZ. 5Ghz works fine for some reason.

I bought 4 of these thinking I could at least find a good one and even tried different POE power supplies that came in the boxes.

I did notice something very strange. My box says that the 610-Outdoor is version 1.28 however the device itself says 1.0 version.

I have updated the firmware on each device.

Now just to be clear i can plug in a Engenious 2.4Ghz outside wifi and have NO issues what so ever. Same settings, Same channel etc.

So I will be making a youtube video of the issue and showing each step taken so that others can maybe help resolve.

Thanks

Dan
