I've recently upgraded from a consumer all-in-one Gaming Router to the TP-Link Omada platform but I'm running into issues with my upload speeds. 

 

Setup:

ER605 Router Gateway

TL-SX1008 - 10GBE Switch

Two EAP670 Access Points (connected at 2.5G to Switch)

Synology NAS (Connected at 10G to Switch)

Verizon Fios Fiber Internet 1gigabit WAN connection (connected to ER605

 

What's odd is that I'm getting good speeds within the LAN transfering files from my NAS to laptop easily getting 90MB/s over wifi.

 

However over the WAN connection I only get good DOWNLOAD speeds of 700-800mbps but my uploads are limited to 300mbps consistantly. 

 

I've tried swapping back to my old hardware and with the same cables/configuration I get 700/700 up and down pretty regularly so this appears to be an issue with the EAP670 access points.

 

Am I missing something here? Or are the EAP670's limited in terms of upload speed?

 After days of trouble shooting it turns out the issue was the TP-Link ER605 router I was using. For some reason when directly connected to the ER605 via ethernet cable I get full gigabit 900/900+ speeds but over wifi upload is limited to 300mbps...

 

To troubleshoot I removed the ER605 from the system and instead replacing it with my old Asus router (with radios turned off) using the exact same cabling/setup. I'm now getting full gigabit speed over wifi consistently both in my LAN and over WAN.

 

Does anyone know why the ER605 would cause this even though it's outputting full gig speeds? The only thing I can imagine is some sort of packet size issue between my ISP (Verizon Fios) and the router? I've tried EVERY setting in the book and nothing seems to resolve it. Again, only over wifi? Wired is fine? Weird... I guess I'll be returning the ER605 and looking at other options.

swap w/ the old device, same setup, just a different router, you get full speed from the wifi as well on the eap?

if so, that does seem to be a problem with the router. 

did you tweak any settings related to the router? 

do you run dual-wan?

 

605 is capable of 940Mbps NAT throughput. bottleneck should not be the 605. did you fix the channel width to the eap?

  @Tedd404 I swapped out the ER605 with my old Asus router and my speeds increased significantly to 800/800+ over wifi to the EAP670 so it's clearly an issue with the ER605 which I don't understand. When plugged DIRECTLY into the ER605 I get full gigabit speeds. It's only when over WIFI that my upload speeds are reduced to 300mbps MAX. With the ASUS router it's 700-800+ consistantly in the same spot connected to the same access point...

 

So I guess the question is: Why is the ER605 handling WIFI traffic differently than direct cable traffic? Does it even know the difference? I'm wondering if it's something to do with packets MTU settings? Though, everything is set to default I am using the EAP670's 2.5GBE connection. 

 

Scratching my head, but it looks like I'll just return the ER605 and use my old router for the time being.

This seems like an odd question for you, have you contacted their support for help?

I don't have a similar problem with my own ER605, so maybe going directly to support will get you the answer you're looking for.

  @Virgo I did contact support. Unfortunately I was kind of run around in circles troubleshooting unrelated things, resettings, etc... Nothing helped. I've since returned the ER605 and I'm using my old router until I can find something better.

did you tweak the mtu on your old router?

1500 default is capable of getting you over 900Mbps. 

Increasing the mtu can get more throughput per packet, but the con is that you will get more errors.

you can modify that to test

DNS can do something to your speed test server as well. if you tweak that, make it public like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1

  @Tedd404 didn't change the MTU. Both routers were set to default and like I said over an Ethernet cable I get 900/900+ consistently. It's only WIFI that suffers for some reason even though the AP and switch setup is identical and I'm only changing the router. Very confusing
