Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Do I need this VPN router (ER605) to run an Omada network? I won't be setting up a VPN. I just need to integrate EAP's for fast roaming in a hotel environment. I intend on buying the OC200, a PoE switch that supports Omada SDN and the EAPs for various floors and lobbys. I have a BT Business hub and a Gigabit fibre connection.

One of the advantages I could see an ER605 having for you is VLANs.  As you are getting the Switch, Controller and APs you could separate the guest traffic completely from your own private hotel traffic using VLANs.  This would offer you some additional security and privacy, it would also offer you some bandwidth controls on your internet if that was desirable.

However.  No you do not need to have an ER605 if you only want Managed WiFi

You don't need an Omada router to run the controller. As long as you have a router that provides internet and DHCP you will be fine. Obviously, you cannot see the 3rd party router in the controller, and for every setting, you need to login separately into the 3rd party router.
