Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0 Build 20220114 Rel.76871

Is there a problem with the DNS service on the ER605 router? Does it need updating?

It used to work but I can't get past the login process anymore

I keep on getting this message in the system log:

WAN: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX login No-IP Server fail.

I've used NO IPs own DUC with the same login details and that works ok but the service on the router keeps on returning that error.

 Hi @NX01

We did not hear any similar feedback before.

Could you please try this firmware?

ER605(UN)_V1_1.2.3 Build 20230224 (Beta)

  @Hank21

Hi

That did not work. I am on 1.2.3 Build 2-230224 Rel.61610 but still getting the same error XXXXXlogin NO-IP Server Fail using the inbuilt no-ip dns provider.

I also noticed a customDNS option but not sure how to use the UPDATE Url feature under "general" as it won't recognise the following command:

http:///[usermame]:[PASSWORD]@dynupdate.no-ip,com/nic/update?hostname=[myhostname]

When I enter the command on a web page, I get the returned IP and nochg so I know the command works but in the UI I get "UPDATE url must contain [USERNAME], [PASSWORD], and [DOMAIN]

I also tried putting the login details into the custom DDNS section but as per the no-ip section, after a while "service status" shows "offline" and system log shows login NO-IP Server Fail.

  @NX01

Dude, there are typo's in your URL:

But this shall not be the real problem here as NO-IP is natively built-into the Controller.

I am also using NO-IP natively configured and it works smoothly on my ER7206 latest (stable) firmware.

How about setting up another (free-of-charge) NO-IP host for testing?

Maybe their API has an issue with your current, productive hostname?

  @NX01

I also recently posted a perfectly fine working example of a Custom DDN config here, if it helps to understand the Update URL logic:

  @Hoamboy

The comma and the other errors were just me with faat fingers

I followed the instructions on the router help page for this section and have tried exactly the same and as per the link you suggested; still no joy.

  @Hoamboy

OK. I feel like a fool.

I don't know if this right but the UPDATE URL I HAD to follow as per the instructions exactly

so [USERNAME[ has to be [USERNAME[

[PASSWORD] had to be [PASSWORD] and

[DOMAIN] had to be [DOMAIN[

the only item I did change was the DNS service provider

I copied and pasted the above exactly and the UPDATE URL SAVES NOW

  @NX01

Just tested this one for you and it' absolutely working fine:

Where the update URL needs to be EXACTLY this one (do NOT fill variables with real values!)

Please test.

@Hank21  and @Fae

Can you please suggest to Dev Team to review the help description for Custom DDNS Update URL format?

We're coming over and over again to the problem, that people filling-in real data to [variables] which must not be done to make it work!

The help description is not good enough here:

The only part to be modified here is after '@' and before '?':

Can you describe a bit better on the help pages?

This would help a lot.

Thanks!

Thank you for your valuable feedback! I've forwarded the suggestion to our engineer for evaluation.
