Model: ER8411
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Is the ER8411 capable of doing multi-gig on the SFP+ port? My ISP provides a GPON which connects at 2.5 Gbit. It will not connect on a 10 Gbit port unless the port can do 2.5 Gbit.

 Hi @autumnwalker

The SFP+ port on the ER8411 is 10G static.

You have fiber connection from the ISP modem?

If it is just an 2.5G Ethernet connection from your ISP modem, you can choose TL-SM5310-T.

@Hank21 I've replaced my ISP modem entirely. Their fiber GPON goes directly into my custom pfSense box. Needs to link at 2.5 Gbps or I have to manually force the port to 1 Gbps, but then I cannot get the full WAN speed.

I'd like to streamline and use TP-Link across my network, but I don't think they have a product that can link WAN at 2.5 Gbps.

Is there a switch that can do 2.5 Gbps fiber with another 10 Gbps fiber that I can run inline between ISP GPON and ER8411?

  @autumnwalker

What's the ISP?

Looks like the ER8411 has negotiation settings for either fixed 10Gig or 1Gig on the WAN SFP+ port. There are no intermediate options (in the current firmware at least).

While I don't have the same exact setup as you, I do have an autonegotiating SFP+ module in the WAN port and am getting 2.5gig up and down with the negotiation settings set to 10gig.

@KiloNein ISP is Bell Aliant in Canada.

They provide a GPON module which I would use in the ER8411 (currently it's in my pfSense box). It is a Nokia G-010S-A.

Good Day, I have a Comcast CGA4332COM CBR2 with two (2) 2.5G ports.  I'm currently using a HiFiber ASF-10G-T SFP+ transceiver that does support multi-gig (2.5G, 5.0G, 10G).  The transceiver (SFP+) is plugged in to the WAN up-link port on the ER8411 (Port 2) and connected to Port 2 on the CableModem/Router.  The CableModem/Router is showing a Blue indication light meaning it thinks it's connected at 2.5G, and the ER8411 is showing a connection at 10Gbps.

It would be great if TP-Link released a firmware to read the I2C on the transceiver to get the actual negotiated speed from the SFP+ (in my case 2.5Gbps).

Will it make any difference in how the SFP+ connection is displayed in the ER8411 GUI?  Would the TP-Link SFP+ be read correctly to show a 2.5Gbps link?  I doubt it but just thought I would ask.

Hi, I have confirmed with tplink support team, ER8411 only supports 1G and 10G, it can not show 2.5G, check the spec:

Interesting if you login to the ER8411 via SSH/ROOT you can see that the 2.5Gbps links is discovered and set to 2.5Gbps just fine.  The underlying Linux has no issues with the 2.5Gbps interface.

@paulrob This thread is about 2.5G SFP mode, useful for GPON ONT/ONUs, not about using a 10G SFP+ to 2.5G Ethernet transceiver.
