ER8411 L2TP VPN Issues
I recently transitioned from a working ER7206 router to the new ER8411. After switch, our client to server VPN has issues with disconnecting clients randomly. I don't really see any timeout settings in the VPN configuration (we are not using Omada controller at the moment). It always seems to happen when idle, so I am unsure if there is a setting for this or if something else is causing VPN disconnects. I see there is a new beta FW out. Any indication that VPN performance and issues like this have been improved?

OK so you have not configured OpenVPN or SSL VPN?
the reason I ask is that when you do that there will be big problems with IPsec VPN, if you only have IPsec then I thought it would work, but there have been a lot of problems with VPN on this router so it may be that you have found one more bug.

yes there have been a lot of problems, but I have found workarounds for most of them so it works for what I am going to use it for. IPsec is very fast, that's the most important thing for me, I also use the L2TP client on the router but I haven't had as many problems with it as I've noticed, I also use the OpenVPN client but then with TCP not UDP, but it's also incredibly slow , about 30 Mbps, so for a device that has to handle over 1600 Mbps with OpenVPN, it's not so good :-)

have you tried this beta version? I've been using it for a while, it works pretty well, all the VPN problems here not fixed but there are a lot of new features.

yes, I hope they fix all the problems soon, I haven't used an L2TP server so I don't know how it works unfortunately, if the beta version doesn't work better you can tag Fae. the more people who report errors to tp-link, the faster it might be fixed
Well, I'll tag him so maybe he has some updated info :-)
