EAP245 ohne Controller hinter FRITZ!Box?
Danke
René

It is not necessary to use the controller to manage all EAPs. However, it is recommended to use it if you have 2-3 and you'd like to have a unified control on all of your EAP. By using it, you can change the SSID at the same time.
Yet, fast roaming and mesh require the controller to be running 24x7 which requires your controller to be online all the time to control the mesh and roaming.
Up to you. Currently, 3 types of controllers are available. Software(free), paid Hardware(OC200), and paid Cloud-based. One-time payment to get a hardware controller. And annual license for Cloud-based controller.

Thanks for the reply.
so without a controller (software or hardware) I can not use the mesh functionality? That means my devices are not roaming between the EAPs?
Thanks.

You can turn off the controller after config your SSID. This does not affect anything. Yet, Fast Roaming and Mesh function only when the controller is running.
That is to say, you want to enjoy Fast Roaming and Mesh? You gotta keep the controller running to support this.

hm ok.
So I will have to decide either use the oc200 or have a Raspberry pi running the software 24/7?
Is the cloud solution as well working? If yes I need to check for pricing.
This is for private use and not business or similar.
thx

pi would be a good choice if you have one. that can do the trick
price can be found after you log in via the cloud portal. price is universal to anyone as I recall.

@Tedd404 Thanks for your answers. Finally the lazy choice won. I ordered 2x EAP245 + 1x oc200. Will put the OC behind my FRITZ!box and then I should be fine.
