Hello Everyone

I wanted to seek your assistance regarding an issue I am facing with establishing VPN connectivity between our SAP server and remote users. Our network setup includes a TP-Link Business router that acts as the gateway for our SAP server and connects to remote users via VPN. However, we have been experiencing some challenges in establishing a stable and reliable connection.

The problem we are encountering is that remote users are unable to establish a VPN connection to our SAP server consistently. While some users can connect successfully, others face frequent disconnections or are unable to establish a connection at all. This inconsistency is causing disruptions to our remote work processes and hindering productivity.

We have tried troubleshooting the issue internally, but so far, we have been unable to identify the root cause or implement a permanent solution. Here are some details about our network setup:

  1. SAP Server: We have a dedicated SAP server hosted on our premises, which is connected to the TP-Link Business router.
  2. TP-Link Business Router: The TP-Link router is responsible for handling the VPN connections and acts as the gateway for our SAP server.
  3. Remote Users: Our remote users are located in various geographical locations and connect to the SAP server via VPN.

Here are the steps we have already taken to address the issue:

  1. Router Configuration: We have double-checked the router configuration settings to ensure they are correctly set up for VPN connectivity. We have also confirmed that the necessary ports and protocols are open.
  2. VPN Client Software: We have verified that the remote users are using the correct VPN client software recommended by TP-Link and have tried reinstalling the software for troubleshooting purposes.
  3. Network Testing: We have conducted network tests to verify that there are no underlying connectivity issues, such as high latency, packet loss, or bandwidth limitations.

Despite these efforts, the issue persists, and we are looking for suggestions and solutions from the community. If any of you have encountered similar problems with VPN connectivity through a TP-Link Business router, we would greatly appreciate your insights.

Here are some specific questions to guide the discussion:

  1. Have you faced similar issues with VPN connectivity through TP-Link Business routers? If so, how did you resolve them?
  2. Are there any specific router settings or configurations that could potentially affect VPN connectivity?
  3. Are there any recommended troubleshooting steps or tools that could help us diagnose the issue more effectively?
  4. Are there any alternative router solutions that have proven to be more reliable for VPN connectivity in an SAP server setup?

Any advice, suggestions, or experiences you can share would be immensely helpful in resolving this issue.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Best regards,

Hi @devinmarco

This could be an issue with the remote users if you describe your topology like that.

  3. Remote Users: Our remote users are located in various geographical locations and connect to the SAP server via VPN.

As long as you can confirm one user can stably connect to the VPN server on the TP-LINK business router, then you can consider there may be an issue with your remote users.

Also, attention that if you are providing a VPN connection to remote users located all over the world, it could be a firewall on your local or national firewall which may block your connection or disconnect your connection periodically. This is beyond our ability to fix or provide suggestions and tips. Please seek help from your local authority about this.

So far, you should verify if your geographical neighborhoods(within a few kilometers) can connect to your VPN without any disconnection. Check if your SAP server has any expiration time or timeout that cuts the connection. Verify if the remote to the VPN tunnel works fine or not.

In the end, I gotta mention that your model is quite old and considered obsolete and EOL. If this is a performance throttle, there is nothing we can do as well.
