Model: TL-SG108E
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version: 1.0.0 Build 20230218 Rel.50633

Hi! I am having trouble fully setting up my mulit SSID / multi VLAN configuration with the TL-WA1201.

I am currently using a Ubuntu DHCP server + TL-SG108E Managed Switch.

I am pretty sure that I have all of my subnets/VLANs and ports tagged correctly but I am only able to get two of the four SSID/VLANs to work.

Working:

-VLAN20 (5Ghz)

10.0.0.0/27

-VLAN40 (2.4Ghz)

172.0.1.0/27

Not Working:

-VLAN60 (5Ghz)

172.0.2.0/29

-VLAN50 (2.4Ghz)

172.0.0.0/28

From what I can tell, it doesn't seem like VLAN60 or VLAN50 are reaching the DHCP server somehow? I'm pretty sure the configurations are correct as I literally did all the same steps when setting up all of the VLANs and port tagging.

From the switch side this is what I have configuration wise:

The TL-WA1201 Multi SSID access point is connect to port 1

Ubuntu DHCP server is connected to port 7

Network gateway/router is connected to port 8

Are my VLAN tagging configurations correct?

Please advise.

Thanks in advanced!

Hi @mwei

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

I have to ask if the Ubuntu server hosts the VLAN and DHCP? If yes, then it is correct. #1 and 7 should be tagged. Not sure what your router is used for

If this does not work, you should consider the following:

1. if the DHCP server port is correctly configured as tagged for VLAN 20 40 50 and 60;

2. if your AP supports multi-VLAN like our EAP does

@mwei I had an issue with this model. For some resion any VLAN id over 40 it ignored for me. See if dropping to a lower VLAN gets it working.

@Clive_A The Ubuntu server hosts both the VLAN(s) and DHCP.

I'm pretty sure that the DHCP server port is correctl confiugred as all of the VLANs are literally configured almost the same way (following the same procedure).

The AP should support multi-VLAN as it is a multi-SSID?

From website:

  • Multiple Modes – Supports Access Point, Range Extender, Multi-SSID, and Client modes to meet any network needs.

@TazDevilLooney I attempted to drop to a lower VLAN this AM and it still did not work, unfortunatly.

  @mwei

Multi-SSID does not mean it is 100% VLAN SSID compatible. As this model is a home product, I suggest you contact the support first. This model has been used for VLAN tests in our lab many times and I don't think there is an issue with it. Can you please rule out whether the AP supports VLAN?

Hi, is VLAN SSID compatible. I actually contacted support for the AP before creating this post/thread here. They have confirmed that my VLAN/SSID/AP configurations looked good so the recommenced me to actually post/ask here...

Hi @mwei

Can you give a try to set the ID value below 32?

Yup, I already tried using VLAN ID of 3 and 4 to no success.

Hi @mwei

If so, I believe it is a problem with the config on your DHCP server. From the specs, this model support 32 max VLAN rules.

The config you posted initially is correct. I don't believe this is an issue with either the switch or the AP now.

Hi, I don't believe that there's any issue with the DHCP server/configuration as I was able to successfully set the switch ports to the VLANs that i'm trying to get to work with the AP and get it all to work. It just somehow doesn't work when trying to get the VLANs through WiFI/AP. (I was able to get proper assigned IP addresses in all VLANs when connected via Ethernet from computer to switch)
