Just saw an 'upgrade' notice in the controller for my v1 EAP615-wall which states it now supports MESH!  Wondered if any other wall versions out there have similar notes in their latest firmware?

 

Also, note that v1.2.3 is higher than the most recent Beta posted (v1.2.2)

 

UPDATE:  Tested and working fine fine with EAP225-outdoor v3  (post:  https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/648812)

Negative benefit to go from wired APs to meshing one of them via the other.

 

IMHO the real big plus with this feature addition is you can use the indoor 615-wall as a repeater to boost/extend coverage area, and/or provide wifi->wired connectivity (with VLAN support) without running any more cables.

 

Use case:  Ethernet outdoor POE security camera, no wifi capability, nearest ethernet port too far/different building.  Install EAP615-wall nearby using POE+ injector.  Enable POE on port 3 and connect short wire from EAP615p3 (POE out) through wall to outdoor POE camera.  Now EAP simultaneaously allows single cable connection to camera, and backhaul of images via 5.8G mesh link.  Can optionally configure different VLAN for port 3 to isolation cameras from other traffic.

Confirming that after firmware update, Controller 5.13 now offers mesh status for this WALL AP.

 

Thanks TPlink...this is an indoor coverage game changer!

I don't think the firmware is published on the Support site(s) yet.  The release notes were available via the blue Upgrade bubble in the Controller software.  It's definitely there though:

  @Hank21 Just curious, for over a year I have been using our two 615 wall units on same SSID, etc and it's worked great. Is there any benefit to switching to mesh instead of two AP's with identical information and letting the device switch between AP's?
