Hi,

Our house is quite long and therefore the wifi coverage at the front is quite patchy. As a result i bought a EAP620HD access point and installed it in the front room to serve our cameras at the front of the house. The access point is connected to our router via ethernet cable and the router is a tp link archer AC1200. I have set the access point up with the same SSID and password as the main router.

I have noticed that after setting up this will work for about a day with no issues and then dropouts start happening, all the cameras send me a notification saying they have lost internet connection. I then try to connect to the wifi at the front of the house and can no longer connect to view the router login page to check what the issue is, so i hard reset the router and set it all up again and repeat until the drops start happening again.

I have tried multiple things i've seen online to rectify the issue, like setting the access point to a static ip and setting the gateway to be the ip of the main router, and reserving the ip for the access point's mac address in the router but nothing seems to work.

Please advise if you can.

Thanks

Hi @joeban

Thanks for reporting this issue to TP-Link community!

First of all, please test that the router and the modem are running stably to rule out the front-end devices factors. Secondly, separate the EAP and the router WiFi name and password so that we can locate the issue more precisely. Set a special SSID for the EAP, and change a 1m-short cable to connect the EAP, and check the following info:

Please use your phone connect or laptop to connect to the EAP’s Wi-Fi. If you can not find the WiFi or can not remember the password, you may reset the EAP and set it up again.

How to reset: please press the reset button on the EAP for 4 seconds and make sure the LED light changes, EAP's WiFi name will back to the default one tplink_5G and without a password.

Now use the phone to connect to the default WiFi and if you can see the error message “Obtain IP address fails”, or the phone can connect it but the IP address is 169.254.x.x. It is because the connection between the router and EAP fails. Please check the physical connection from the router to the EAP. If you are not sure, please use a PC to replace the EAP, connecting with the same Ethernet port and cable to check the PC can get internet or not.

If you can connect to the EAP’s Wi-Fi but no internet, please check the IP address on the phone or PC.
How to find IP address of Android smartphone/iPhone/iPad

If you can get a valid IP address, please do the Ping test on the PC, we need to Ping the router’s LAN IP, ping the 8.8.8.8 to check the connectivity.
Here is the instruction of the Ping test.
