I would like to suggest we add:

nntpd - to solve the 'once-a-day' time sync that current hardware controllers have.  Add configurable NTP server, default to ntp-pool

upsd - basically make it a NUT client so that the controller shutsdown cleanly if a UPS is about to go down 

Both of these are pretty lightweight and pretty useful.  It would be trivial to add them into the build (I have already baked them into my Linux based controllers)
