Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.0.0 20220106 rel. 56391

As the title implies, both ISPs use the same IP address (192.168.100.1). Neither can be changed. Will this create a problem for the ER605 when configured for fail-over? If so, is there a work-around? TIA

You could set WAN IP address as Static IP like this:

For the second WAN you could use the same settings but with a Static IP address of 192.168.100.254. I think that's worth testing.

As for the bridged ISP routers there shouldn't be a problem because in this case you''d receive your public IP address on your ER605 WAN port.

If the IP addresses are the same this could be a problem since the ER605 wouldn't know how to load balance between the two ISPs.

A workaround would be to use the Starlink router in bridge mode (bypass mode) as well as the cable router (if applicable).

This way your ER605 would be your main router and you'll use its full potential avoiding double NAT in your local network.

@RickMo Thank you, terziyski, for the reply. I read through the "sticky" notes about Starlink and my fears have been realized; I'm afriad I'm up the creek. I have the original, version 1 (round dishy) of Starlink, meaning I don't have the bypass option. I can't change the Netgear modem IP address either. And, I don't have a paddle. Oh well...

Thanks again. Appreciate the info.

As I think of the ER605 WAN ports IP addressing, If you set ER605 WAN1 and WAN2 with different IP addresses within the 192.168.100.0/24 subnet this might work as expected.

Hi @RickMo

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

You may also try to upgrade your firmware to the latest.

We recommend you avoid LAN WAN subnet duplication. For load balance and multiple WANs, avoid WANs to be duplicated.

Thanks again. Questions: I'm looking at the ER605 GUI and don't see anything obvious about changing/modifying WAN1 or WAN2 IP addresses. I do see an IP address for the cable ISP as well as Starlink, but it offers no option to change the device IP address. Am I missing something?

Also, a side question: Even if I bridge the two ISPs (using two routers), would there still be a conflict due to the duplicate device IPs?

Thanks. You help is really appreciated, as this problem is driving me nuts.

@terziyski So helpful! Thanks! smiley I'm looking forward to implementing your suggestion but I have to wait a few days. My wife needs Internet access to work on payroll. I'll report back next week with my results.

@RickMo Thanks for your input and help.

I configured the router as you suggested but the problem persists. But after giving the idea deeper consideration, it shouldn't work. I think the router is looking for an absolute IP address to the ISPs. It has no idea how to translate the 192.168.1.254 into a path to either the cable ISP or Starlink, or to a specific modem.

I opened a support ticket with TP-LINK and asked about this duplicate device IP adddress. According to him, this should NOT have a negative affect on failover situations. And that makes sense since the modem or Starlink device IP info is never requested or accounted for when setting up the router.

I did upgrade the firmware and I'll see if that helps in any way.

Thanks again.
