  @KashiSecurity

Thanks mate, I think we've got building consensus here, no idea who this PM person is claiming the issue is not a bug or that it doesn't make sense to not use masking zones.

There is not a lot of situations where the camera will have a view that doesn't include some areas that need to be masked out, e.g. imagine it was seeing a sign or screen, the camera would go nuts tracking the screen images.   I think this is why TP-Link probably hasn't got much market share in cameras and zero reviews, basic camera functions like masking out areas are not supported is very odd.

Would seem like a simple fix to me to modify the human detection to work within a set zone, like all other cameras and tools do.

Failing that implement the ONVIF and PTZ functions so they actually work so other tools like Frigate could control it.  Again why is this not a bug to the PM.

Instead we get aggressive responses from people like Clive A who doesn't even understand where saying "mask the area" that is used to detect and start tracking.  Obviously once the camera is moving it can't then apply masking, that's fairly normal limitation of current state of the market.

But the PTZ tracking being triggered by movement across the entire visible range is absurb, I agree it looks goofy, potentially a privacy breach, it causes constant false triggers and it wears down the motors unnecessarily and wastes storage space with constant triggers recording useless events.   If Clive A thinks this is great feature, love to see how he sees it benefiting customers that he's done installations for himself.

Exact same issue here, I just came here from google trying to find a solution.

Totally understand that the detection zones changes as the camera PTZs around. What is ridiculous is that we can't limit tracking to only starting once they're in the detection zone.

I have a camera where the top right portion of the feed captures a relatively busy footpath. I have human detection turned on with detection limits that exclude that top corner, so it only actually notifies who walk onto my property. All sensible enough so far.

ONCE they're on my property (i.e. Human Detection has triggered, within the zone), THEN I want to track them. I can't do that.

At the moment, my camera is going absolutely haywire trying to track all the people going past in the top corner of the image. This also keeps pulling my camera out of its preset position as it tries to centre the frame on the people who should be harmlessly passing by in the top corner. That then means the camera is mostly looking at the street and not at my garden. This puts even more people in view of the camera... the camera then goes even more haywire trying to follow them...

Honestly, the camera spends so much time tracking people who should be passing harmlessly by in the top corner that it spends almost no time looking at my garden at all. It's so busy tracking them, in fact, that misses the majority of people who DO enter my property.

If you want the camera to track absolutely everyone who comes into view, then sure, have that as an option. But how hard can it be to enable an extra optional switch that says "only start tracking once human detected triggered".

i.e. ONCE someone has entered the human detection zone, THEN follow that person.

We don't want to follow absolutely everyone random that you can think of. There's detection zones for a reason. And because I can't do this, I have an expensive PTZ camera that may as well be a fixed camera because it's completely useless at following people.

That's all we're asking for here. It would make a HUGE difference. If someone wants to keep the current behaviour, then sure - let them. But for everyone else, give them a toggle!

I have the exact same problem.
Even with the Human Detection zoes set, Camera is tracking ppl in the cover of the frame and following them.
This urgently need to be fixed or it is basically making the PTZ camera function pretty useless.

Will wait and see what they have to say otherwise might have to rip the VIGI system out.
