Dear Tp_link,

Is it possible go in the future with openstreetmaps? Mapbox isn't really nice nor customer friendly. I would rather support an open source initiative that is even wider used than mapbox.

kind regards

Jay

I am afraid this is not possible. If you mean to implement the street map in the controller system, which is used for business. This API will be charging us. That increases the cost.

An open source street map is not used for commercial which seems to be exploited by us and disrespects the owner. This has legal risks.

And this will need to be updated if there is a problem. We are not a company that is allowed to map a map. This involves many more considerations and even if we do it, the maintenance would be huge.

And for now, our system is rather closed. Not planning to use too many open-source products. If we want to do a project, we would prefer to develop it ourselves instead of using third-party services, which involves cost considerations and legal risks.

Not sure I get this. MAPbox costs nearly for everything but not street map use. I can't comment what is implemented in Omada on mapping stuff. I thought geo coordinates data and displaying a map in the GUI seems not an issue for not using openstreetmap in a commercial product. I would have guess like non complete map data etc but osm as such.

kind regards

When it comes to free service, non-commercial, they don't charge. I've seen many services. I don't deny that. Like services Tailscale or others, for personal use, it is free.

When it comes to the advanced features or API for commercial, which we have a large quantity of users, that's no longer a regular request like personal use.

I don't think any of the service providers would offer their server for free for millions or billions of requests per day.

If it is free, then it may not be up-to-date. Or they limit daily requests or per-user requests. Run by personal maintenance or other situations.

I have not figured out how a service would offer free service for millions of requests. How do they fund their server? Basic data update, maintenance, human resources and power consumption. It's not making sense for a commercial API for free.

If the purpose is commercial use(as for us who develop the system), I think every service would cost, even though it says the service is "free" while you are browsing it. When you profit from it, and you are not telling them you use their service(API) for free, that's a legal risk we could not afford.
